Does coffee make you more productive?

It’s a common belief that a coffee will help one to work faster and generally be more productive. But for me I have to say it’s the opposite. I guess it does work if it’s the middle of the afternoon, I’m doing something rather tedious and generally feeling sleepy. A quick espresso downed in a couple of gulps would help perk me up. Also useful on a long drive. But in general I’m the sort of person who takes time over a drink. I can’t drink things that are too hot (it’s a bad idea to eat or drink scalding hot things anyway), and I like to make my pleasures last! So if I make myself a coffee in the morning, that generally slows me down and means I don’t get properly started until later! I sip my drink while I read emails and of course read some posts here on MyLot. When I was younger I didn’t drink coffee so I would just get straight on with things in the morning! Does a coffee help you get more done or does it actually slow you down? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

I do not think that the coffee makes me more productive, but I cannot start my day without my coffee. I drink coffee from the day I started to go to school, as all Italians do. An espresso coffee is never too hot, the espresso machine must be set so that the espresso is at 40º/45º C when it is in the cup. The cup should also be at this temperature, this is why in the Italian coffee shops you see the cups on top of the espresso machines. A higher temperature kills the aroma.

@Fleura I loved to discuss with a barista when I lived in Milan. It was a café near our office where I always went to have a snack and an espresso during the noon break. He was really a good one, his espresso was perfect.

I don't drink coffee, but my mother does. I know she gets in a better mood once she has her coffee in the mornings.

I think it's just a little treat at the start of the day. Once a friend accused me of being a caffeine addict. To test this I tried switching to decaff coffee, but I still wanted my morning routine!

I never drank coffee till I was married but now I look forward to that first cup in the morning. I drink it while reading posts or answering notifications. I don't really think it makes much difference to my productivity.

I am not sure it makes me more productive. It definitely does wake me up though. I only drink it in the morning.

I don't know about more productive but it does make me nicer in the morning lol. My husband runs and hides until I've had at least half the cup.

Glad to know about your taste preference. I generally don't drink coffee regularly. I have it occassionally. I think it acts as an energy booster mostly and people works productive
