Movie Mistakes Made in Iconic Movies

Take the sunglasses worn by Jamie Fox in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained"(2012). A western set in the 1800s. One of his iconic props is some round cool sunglasses that weren't even available until the 20th Century. What about the cultural phenomenon "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark? This great action-packed movie came out in 1981. Indie is globe-trotting and in one bazaar scene set in 1930s Egypt, you can see one of the production crew walking along decked out in a 1980s t-shirt and jeans. And, finally, what about The Ten Commandments made in 1956. A beautiful blue silk dress is worn by Anne Baxter who played Nefertiti. The dress is lovely and is a sheer design. But the Egyptians did not have dyes available to them at the time the film takes place to make this particular color. We still enjoyed these movies and, I will wager, that none of us noticed these mistakes. There are crews whose job it is to make sure films are kept authentic and that continuity is kept throughout. But, still, some things obviously get past them, even today. Do you know of other mistakes like this made in the movies?

Often there are mistakes in movies, not only in the movies of the past. I disagree about the blue color in ancient Egypt, as many of their paintings show the blue.

This was more of a turquoise color. I felt it looked green to me.

@celticeagle The original dress was described as "blue", but it looked turquoise also to me.

I don’t watch enough movies, but I’ve caught some glaring errors in books.

@celticeagle I just read a historical fiction and many things she introduces, and terminology used didn’t occur until 50 years later. Someone didn’t do their homework. It took so much away from the book.

I read somewhere that there are a lot of things in The Wizard of Oz including a crew member who supposedly hung himself on the set.

I can never spot them last I saw was ghost because of billboard or something made it look like movie ghost had a ghost. I am to busy paying attention to movie trying to understand and if get bored just fall asleep. My favorite movie to fall asleep of all time is Wind Talkers. Did it in Marines while a Marine and in Australia. I go who does that? Me. I did go back and watch it great movie but you cannot make a tired Marine watch that.

Like I said earlier, I probably wouldn't notice mistakes because I am too busy watching the characters. Tired Marine, huh? I see what you mean.

@mrki444 ......I see. Wonder how much that would have cost to do it again. Also, where was the person who is supposed to check the dailies? Or , do they do that anymore? Hmm.

I have noticed quite a few of them in the Bollywood movies. It's hilarious when we think about it later. But I guess that the movies are a great entertainment as a whole package and most of us miss to notice such mistakes.

When I first watch a movie I probably wouldn't notice any mistakes because I am busy watching the characters. Watching it again I might be more apt to see the mistakes.

@arunima25 .......I remember when I was a youngster and into a tv series "Dark Shadows". It was badly made and you could see all kinds of mistakes. The microphone is in shadow sometimes. Just whacky stuff.

@celticeagle Yes, that's what happens with me too.. Sometimes the mistakes are quite obvious and can be noticed in the first go.
