Ooh, am I in a good mood! I just had my first taste of watermelon for the season!!! It’s unusual, if not downright impossible, to get a good, sweet watermelon this early in the year (it’s not even Memorial Day yet), but I picked one up at Kroger yesterday and sliced me off a hunk tonight for dessert. Absolutely delicious! Because of the threat of rain I didn’t go too far. I went to have my semi-monthly “slider” hamburger (I have a mild beef allergy, and one “slider” sized hamburger at Logan’s Roadhouse is as far as I’ll push my limits). After lunch I walked around a shopping center. The smell from a soap shop called Buff City Soap was so enticing (even from outside….with their doors closed) that I had to go in. Oh, did it smell good. They make “natural” soap out of plant-based materials, and make the soaps on site. I chatted with the manager for a few minutes (she was intrigued by my walking cane/seat, so I showed her the product on Amazon where I’d ordered mine from), and she sent me on my way with some free samples. I had to laugh at one of the soap names: “Wash That Ash,” made out of charcoal. I came home and watched the radar. We had a downpour that hit us, eventually, but in the meantime I saw one of the neighborhood cats wandering around out front and set out a can of food for it. Beggars can’t be choosers, and he/she gobbled it right on down, along with quite a bit of dry food. I was able to get the dry food back inside before the rain made it wet food. Because of the weather there was no golf tonight. I saw online, however, that one of my favorite people to be partnered with won a tournament over the past weekend. He played the tournament in a walking boot and won. That shows what a good player he is. (And as good a player as he is, he’s that much nicer a gentleman!) We had tornado warnings in southeastern Kentucky, but no severe weather here. A few claps of thunder was it, and a good downpour. It’s supposed to get awful (as in “State Fair weather” {our state fair is in mid-August} as one meteorologist put it) Friday, with temps and heat indexes in the 90s. I’ll either go to the home remodeling expo or I’ll lounge at home. Either way, I’ll be in air conditioned comfort. Hope y’all have a good evening!

I saw watermelons at Kroger but I was afraid they’d be half ripe so I didn’t buy one.

The bad thing about watermelons is it’s always a gamble. Even in August you can get a bad one.

@FourWalls True, I’ll wait another month and try to find a ripe watermelon. It’s anybody’s guess.

I would imagine the Amish store carries soap made with that, or with lye. I’ve been to one of those “pioneer villages” and watched them make lye soap.

@FourWalls Actually all bar soaps use lye. Thats what cause the reaction of the ingredients to give you the lather.

Natural soap is the best. There is a lady here that makes it and sells it at the indoor flea market. She gives me lots of samples when I buy a bar from her.

Sounds nice! I like watermelon too. I get mine from a supermarket, Foodland, that has cut fruits, so sweet. Glad weather was wet & mild. We're expecting rain till Sunday too.

I’ve seen cut watermelons, but I really can’t justify paying more for a slice than for a whole melon. I like watermelon too much to be that wasteful with my money. (Seriously, if I were younger I’d probably have my walls painted red with black spots on them and green trim to make my house look like a watermelon! )

I usual have watermelon on the 4th of July. But any time you can find one fresh is a good time. No rain here just yet.

We’ve had a busy day with the warnings all around us, but nothing severe right in town. We did have a tornado warning next county southwest of us, though. We have a thunderstorm watch until 2 AM. There’s no wrong time for watermelon in my books!

Hope you got just what you needed: not too severe, not too much, and not too little. Oh, and no cold weather!

We had a lot of thunder and lightning along with the pouring rain last night and early this morning, but that was all we had. I'm glad you didn't have anything worse than that.

I haven’t seen any reports of anything other than tree damage. I hope that’s the worst they got.

@FourWalls That's all that happened at our house, too. The storms snapped a tree in half in our back yard.

You sound like you had quite an adventurous day. I would have loved that soap store and I bet it was interesting to see them making the soap right there. Hope you enjoy your free samples. Do all their soaps have such fun names as "wash that ash"? My friend has one of those canes with the seat and swears by it. She never worries about finding a place to sit Glad your weather didn't get too bad

Those canes are amazing. My back issue isn’t so much preventing me from walking but from walking long distances or standing. It comes in very handy at the check-out lines in stores! The laundry soap sample she gave me is called “narcissist.” Hope it doesn’t make my clothes smell like me after a hot day of putting!

@FourWalls I hear ya when it comes to standing in lines etc That's my biggest problem too. I love the name of that soap (narcissist). I'm sure it smells really nice

We were in front of a closed saddlery shop in France once and I could smell the leather from outside. Such a beautiful smell. I was standing at the door peering in and taking big, deep breaths. lol

Oh,yes, absolutely, that aroma will hit you a mile away. I stopped at some place in South Dakota and they had a leather shop. I didn’t see it but I could sure smell it!

I have friends who make home made soaps. They do a great job with it. Glad kitty was able to gobble up some grub before the rain came. And that you didn't have too many bad storms. We could use some rain. What rain we have had lately has been drizzles mostly. We did get a decent downpour for about 5 minutes last Friday morning. Our grass is already turning brown and yellow, something that happens more in August than May

I wish southern Kentucky could send you some. They had some severe weather that seemed to park itself over the same three counties last night.

We have watermelons available all year, but the ones in the winter are usually grown in greenhouses and aren’t any good.
