Windsor's Crooked House and a Big Ouch!

On Sunday I took a pedal to Windsor and grab some pictures of the Crooked House, near the main gate of the castle. A couple of miles from home, I was cycling along a street of parked cars with oncoming traffic. I was taking it fairly slow and riding with my hands on the brakes. Suddenly a van door is flung open and before I can even think about it, I am laying on the road, stunned. The driver helped me to the pavement and a passing NHS Medic gave me a once over. I was lucky, despite bruising my collarbone, nothing was broken. My ankle and hip were also bruised. I pedalled home, feeling the worse for wear, and discovered my front wheel was slightly buckled. Think I can fix that myself. It was an uncomfortable night and on Monday morning I could barely limp along. I have been making myself move and this morning I am just about walking normally, but my collarbone still aches and a bit sore in the leg, but not feeling so sorry for myself. Not planning any long rides soon, but I may take a quick ride to Uxbridge this Sunday!

Oh my goodness. I hope you are ok. I am sure you are sore all over after that fall. You can never be too safe out there it seems. Please be careful. Interesting photo by the way.

I watched the video from my helmet camera and I find it hard to believe I got so banged up. It was all slow speed.

@CarolDM The coincidence is interesting. If I'd not gone to Windsor or stopped for a cuppa it wouldn't have happened... probably. it is only the matter of a few seconds

@Ronrybs I am so glad it wasn't any worse. This happened so fast.

Be careful out there, it is not the time to ride.

You can be sure that my riding style will change somewhat! I do need to be active, sitting around won't aid the healing, I think

I am so sorry this accident happened to you. People should pay more attention before opening their doors. I hope you feel better today. That house surely looks crooked.

@Ronrybs I am so sorry. Did you see a doctor? I tend to do nothing and wait to get well.

Still limping, but I am trying to be active everyday... well, except for the day after when I spent most of my time trying to get comfy.

@LadyDuck I thought about a Dr. but didn't. I am getting better, but slowly, still I am not a spring chick anymore!

I hope you're feeling much better now. If you aren't, maybe you should think about talking with your doctor and get some pain pills for a few days.

@Ronrybs You're welcome. And I understand. I got dizzy while riding my bike a few days ago and crashed in our yard. I'm still sore from that. My daughter says I'm not allowed to ride it anymore.

Thanks, I am on the mend, but at my age it is a slow process! Not in pain as such, just sore and if I push too hard to do something, I get achy

That would be a cool building to open up a shop. I'm glad you are feeling better, I would think the person who opened the door owes you some money for pain and fixing your bike.

The shop closed during the pandemic, but I am sure as things stabilise it'll reopen. A bit of a novel location! Could have been worse. I have already been out a couple of times on my other bike.

Some hurts pain more later on. That sounds scary but glad that you are safe and nothing serious happened. Hope that you feel better soon

Luckily, it was no more painful the day after, but it is lingering. I have been keeping active and I think that helps

@arunima25 I am almost limp-free and my collarbone is little sore. That'll likely take a few more days

@Ronrybs It might take some time to heal. But won't it be better to give it some rest to heal well before you get active. Take care and I hope it's all good soon.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. At least you weren't seriously hurt, and glad your bike seems to be able to be fixed easily enough.

thanks, it was fairly slow speed, so it could have been worse. Once I am little mobile I shall dig out my wheel straightening kit and sort that wobble out!

Oh dear how unfortunate now that happened to you Ron..people should look before they fling open van doors! Hope there are no hairline fractures to trouble you now. Yes could have been worse, but still...hope you are feeling a bit better now? I love the house, I will let it

I have a slight limp now, but the ankle swelling has just about gone. The collarbone is still sore and and I am still careful. I looked it up and I think I have bruised the bone. It is getting better, but slowly

Very well, thank you. No limp, but the ankle is still a bit sore and same with the collarbone. Have been out on my little bike a few times, and plan to again, shortly for some essential cat shoppng!

Gosh I missed this. So sorry you had that experience. Something we are always afraid of. Thank goodness you were not hit by something coming the other way. As cyclists I think we should probably make more fuss and prosecute the people who do these careless things. When you think of the number of drivers who claim to have non-existent whiplash etc. and we just brush ourselves off and insist we are ok. If we were more pushy they might be a bit more careful!

Oh wow. I guess that is one of the hazards of cycling but it could have been so much worse. I hope you're feeling better each day. I love the photo. I'm sure that building would be really old.

Very true, it is one of the problems, but it is the first time I've knocked off in some thirty years. The building dates from the early 18 century, if I remember right.
