I saw a very sad AP picture of a woman kneeling beside the body of her husband which was lying in a pool of blood.
He was hit and died during the shelling of a subway station in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine.
Another photo shows a woman washing dishes by the light of a single lamp in a dark, damp basement being used as a bomb shelter.
No electricity, running water or gas-- can you imagine how hard it is for people to survive in these basements?
The theme for this year's International Day of UN Peacekeepers is : " Protecting civilians , protecting peace."
My hope is that these Peacekeepers will try a bit harder to ease the suffering of innocent civilians caught up in these wars worldwide.
The first UN peacekeeping mission was established on May 29, 1948.

I wish the world would be free of wars, of civilians suffering, but this will never happen.
The first UN pacekeeping mission was to monitor the Armistice Agreement between Israel and its Arab neighbors.
74 years after Israel and the Arab neighbors still fight.

War is cruel.
. Things might get back to normal for the countries later once the war is over. But some lives are devastated forever and these wounds don't heal
