A family that lives in Punta Gorda Florida were surprised on Wednesday evening when they were sleeping when they heard loud noises outside of their home. The name of the family who is not known for privacy reasons saw a huge 11 foot alligator that weighs 550 pounds having a swim inside of their swimming pool. The alligator managed to get inside their home by breaking the screen door of their home to get into the swimming pool to get some well deserved rest. Since alligators go by instinct, a body of water like a swimming pool is considered their home as well as being in a lake or creek. One of the family members called 911 to report the incident to the dispatcher who sent police officers from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and an animal control officer to capture the alligator by using a rope to tie up the gator and tape his mouth shut so he could be taken to another area where the gator will be in his own element of water. The authorities in Charlotte County are telling members of their community that due to higher temperatures coming up in the summer more alligators will be seen on the areas where swimming pools are around.

I sure am glad I don't live near anywhere that alligators call home.

Same here since in my neighborhood there is not a body of water nearby.

Yeah, I'm in a desert so there's no lakes or other wet spots gators would want to call home.

That's disturbing that he broke through the screen door! I'm glad they were able to re-home the gator.

I agree with you. It is a shame that the alligator broke down a screen door in the home of the couple.

In Florida there are many alligators that live in that area near a body of water.

Yikes!!!! I know alligators seek out water so I'm not totally surprised that one was in the swimming pool but it scares me to think he got through a screen door to get to it. 11 ft and 550 lbs is no joke

A large alligator that size is very huge like a giant for a human.

Yikes!!!Big gator! Had one snap at me once as I was getting out of an 18 wheeler it had crawled out of a nearby creek and rested under my truck for shade at truck stop. Two truckers parked next to me jumped out and chased him back into the foliage with bats
