Have you started to read a book and realized you read it before?

Thank you Jennifer because I got the idea while reading your response to what I wrote you. I looked at the back cover and the book looked interesting and did not remember it at the time that I read it already. I decided to read it and sure enough I remembered reading it before. It was a while ago so continued to read it to see if understood it better the 2nd time around. Has that happened to you and if so, did you continue to read it or go on to something else you did not read before?

I have read more than one book more than once because I liked and I enjoyed re-reading. It happened that I bought one and when I started reading I realized I had read in another language.

@Hannihar I do the same with movies, I see a title and I say "I have not seen that one", when I start to watch I realize I have watched in another language with another title.

@LadyDuck I hope at least it is a good movie so you want to watch it again. That is frustrating when one can watch something else that they have not seen before.

I often read a book twice. I tend to hurry the first time to 'see what happens next' but then I pick up a lot more second time around.

I don't think so, but there are lots of movies that I realize half way through I had seen it before.

@Hannihar No, I keep watching. I was watching one the other day, that I knew I had seen because I saw it in the theater. The only scene I remembered though was at the end because it was a bit shocking.

@snowy22315 I am glad you keep watching. That is too bad if the ending was the only scene you remember but so glad you watched it anyway.

@snowy22315 So the movies that you have seen before do you want to watch them again or go on to something else you have not seen yet?

That happens now and again because I read anything I find by Tony Hillerman.

I did the same thing a few days ago. I started reading Home by Toni Morrison and I didn’t remember the whole book but enough to know I’d read it before. I didn’t remember the ending so I finished the book.

I have never done it with a book. But I have watched plenty of movies thinking they were new movies I had never seen. By the time I watched the whole movie I realized I have seen the movie before. Good thing it was a good movie

That's happened to me many times before and sometimes it takes several chapters before I realize I've already read it but I will usually continue to read it.

@Hildasalom So do you watch the movie again or find another one to watch? I have watched movies that I have seen long ago and wanted to watch them again. I look at it maybe I will see something I did not see the first time around.

@Hannihar I can watch the movie again if I used to love it. It mainly depends on the movie genre

This has not happened to me before. But I have intentionally read some books more than once. They would be Lord of the Flies, Charlotte's Web, The Stand, and Ghost Story.

@Hannihar I have seen the movie, Lord of the Flies. Good, but not nearly as good as the book was in my opinion. Ghost Story is a book by Peter Straub about a girl that was killed that now haunts all of the members of the Chowder Society...it's a great read and one of the best books I have ever read if you want to ever give it a go. My description does it absolutely NO justice.

There are some books I read multiple times. I'm now re-reading one of the Chinese classic novels. I have different interpretations each time I read it.

@Beestring That is interesting that you do not see the Chinese classic novels differently each time you read them. Is it confusing to have different interpretations each time you read them?

@Beestring Makes sense to me as you get older you get a different perspective on it each time you reread it. I must really like it that you reread them every 5 to 8 years.

@Hannihar The book I'm re-reading is actually one of the world famous Chinese classic literature. It has been translated into different languages. I don't re-read it often, I do it every 5-8 years. As I aged, I have a different feeling/interpretation of the story.
