Such a sad and so unexpected day

This morning we got a text that the church we went to for thirteen years, Siloam United Methodist Church, caught on fire during the night.
The fellowship hall and small library were destroyed and the sanctuary has water and smoke damage. I'm still in shock. The State Bureau of Investigation is trying to determine if the cause was arson.
A small camper just a few miles away was also burned during the night.
We live just a couple of miles from the church and were members there for many years. It's well over a hundred years old and there's never been a time that someone related to me wasn't attending there. I have about six generations of relatives who are buried in the church yard.
Even though we've been going to a nondenominational church for a couple of years now, I'm still the treasurer of Siloam. It's such a small membership and I haven't seen any reason to not continue.
There were so many old documents and books there, photos, so many memories of friends and relatives over the years. That's where I sang my first solo at the age of about four. So many funerals and weddings (our son's second wedding was there.)
Thank the good Lord the church has insurance, but there are many things that can never be replaced.

You're right. Even though we don't attend there, it's always been a part of my life.

@1creekgirl I know. Fires can happen anywhere at any time and any place. But, it's always sad when it happens. I hope no one was hurt.

@kaylachan No, no one was there. I hope it was wiring or lightening and not arson.

There's such evil in the world. Maybe we'll learn the cause of it later. I'd rather it have been a lightening strike or electrical fire than for someone mean enough to do that.

@JimBo452020 I guess anything is possible, but as far as I know, no one ever smokes in the church.

That is so sad. There was a church on the corner where we live. This was some time ago, It was a church standing empty and unused. Then about a couple of years ago the church was set on fire and burned down, Still an empty spot on the corner there and it looks so unusual.

@LadyDuck It looks like the sanctuary isn't so bad, but my husband went inside and he doesn't see how any of it can be saved.

A very sad incident indeed. Some things will have perished for sure but hope the church building is intact.
