What kind of coffee did I get?

My mom needed to go home so hubby and I went to her summer cottage over the weekend where she was staying. We came Saturday night and stayed there the entire day Sunday before driving her home. I always have coffee for breakfast but my mom had no coffee there so we went to a Dunkin Donuts near her to get some coffee. Hubby told the guy he wants an iced caramel macchiato and that I want a small coffee with whole milk. The guy rung it up and gave us the receipt. I looked at it and noticed that it said coffee with almond milk. No way would I drink that. We went up to the guy and said it should be whole milk, not almond milk. He didn't understand us and then thought we meant oat milk. We told him no we want 4% milk, which he didn't understand either, so I told him I want regular milk. I thought that was easy enough to understand. We waited and he gave me my coffee and hubby his drink. We left the place and hubby started drinking his macchiato, saying there is no sugar in it. I looked at the receipt and noticed the guy rang up regular macchiato instead of the caramel one. When we got to the cottage I opened the lid of my coffee looking forward to enjoying it with my glazed donut. There was no sign of regular milk in my cup. Color-wise, the liquid inside resembled muddy water or dare I say it liquid poop. And when I tasted the coffee I hardly tasted any coffee flavor. There may have been a hint of almond flavor but I wasn't sure. I should've gone back to Dunkin Donuts and have them make me a new cup of coffee but didn't feel like doing it. So I drank about half of it. The sweet glazed donut and slice of cheese I put on top of the donut made the coffee taste not as disgusting as it was.

Oh dear I would have been not leaving Dunkins without opening the lids first since he was so incompetent.

We should've done that but didn't think of it right then. I get that English may not be the guy's first language but neither is ours. We were not speaking gibberish. It was clear to understand what we were saying. But maybe if hubby said right away coffee with regular milk or coffee with milk then my mix-up wouldn't have happened.

@lovebuglena Yes true..but I am of the mind it does not seem that it was his English..it seems he was just getting flustered and not listening as a result

@RebeccasFarm But the thing is if the order is incorrect a person should go back and ask them to redo it. We did no such thing.

This is why I just drink my coffee black. Nice and simple. That and I actually like the taste of coffee and so I feel no need to cover up its natural flavor. Either way, this would have been frustrating to say the least, but I am not sure I would have bothered to go back either.

It's not like it would've been a long trip back to Dunkin. It's a pretty short walk from the cottage. I should've gone back. Not sure what my remade drink would be though. No guarantee he wouldn't screw it up again.

@lovebuglena That would be the thing. This guy did not seem like he'd be heading off to a Mensa meeting after work. lol

Your order would have been understood if you'd written it down and gave it to the waiter.

This wasn't a restaurant so I couldn't write anything down.

I think this is why I prefer to make coffee at home. Well, at least you had something even if you didn't finish it.

@lovebuglena If you knew you had to get coffee out, why didn't you order that, then?

@kaylachan Not sure what you mean. I had no idea my mom has no coffee at her summer cottage. I would've brought instant coffee from home.

I prefer to make coffee at home as well. Didn't have that option there. Only time I get coffee out is if I am having dinner or breakfast at a restaurant. And then I usually get a cappuccino.

I'm sorry you didn't get what you ordered. It shouldn't have been that difficult!

Whole milk definitely doesn't sound like almond milk. If anything whole and oat can be slightly similar to some when you pronounce it. In the end, I have no idea what the heck I got.

@LindaOHio I was at hubby's cousin's house once and asked for coffee. She said she has no milk, only almond milk. I was open to trying it as I don't drink black coffee. I did not like it at all.

I am not sure what kind of coffee they had but it was not good. Usually it's not bad.

I'm very sorry that happened. Most places I go to give you back coffee, then you can add milk, cream and sugar at their condiment table.

I think usually Dunkin Donuts doesn't do that.

It is so disappointing when we're really looking forward to a coffee and it's not what we're expecting.

Definitely and especially when the price is not cheap.

I wonder that as well. Hubby and I were speaking clearly and loud enough to be heard.
