My dad's birthday

This Wednesday will be my dad's 71st birthday but of course he is no longer here to celebrate it. I am thinking of maybe having dinner with hubby and my mom in honor of that. I feel like cooking something, though not sure what yet. On the other hand, I wonder if it's better to go out somewhere. There is an Asian restaurant close to my mom's house we haven't tried yet. Still surreal that my dad is gone. I have not deleted his number from my contacts. Sometimes when I see it in my favorites I am tempted to call him but then quickly realize there is no one to call anymore.

Don't ever delete his number from your contacts Lena Keep it there. Always.

I won't. The only thing I deleted was his voicemail. Maybe I shouldn't have. I wish I could hear his voice again.

@JimBo452020 I am not sure about that. And the message he left was not a happy message.

My Dad passed away years ago, way too young. I still celebrate his birthday. The only people that even remember him are my children and myself. ( Well, my ex, but we won't go there.) I still remember his phone number, and a lot of other little things. His pride in his family was tremendous, and I am glad he had that. We all still miss him. I hope you have a lot of good memories to help sustain you, I know mine help me a lot.

It's definitely hard. During the pandemic a family friend lost both of her parents. I still have my mom at least.

@MarieCoyle Oh no! I know people who are vaxxed and they still got covid and it was really bad. But they recovered though.

I know it is so hard to delete people that have passed on! Is there a dish or restaurant that your father liked that you all liked? Maybe you should fix that or go to that place. Happy Birthday to your father in heaven!

@lovebuglena But it's important that you like and the family like them too. I didn't know him but I am sure he wouldn't like it if you just ate the food for his memory. I am glad that you liked the suggestion!

That is a good idea. Thank you for the suggestion. He loved sushi, mushrooms, Georgian kharcho soup, kebabs, a great piece of meat. Many things.

@lovebuglena That's wonderful. Memories would be lasting if there are mementos remain in tact.

This must be really hard. The pain of losing a parent stays forever Maybe you should try that new restaurant

Thanks. It's this Wednesday. How I wish he had at least made it to his birthday. But then again having your birthday being in the hospital chained to a ventilator is not something a person would want. And I wouldn't want that for him.
