Prayer or meditation?

Kenya
June 28, 2022 12:00pm CST
Prayer is when we talk to God , whereas meditation is when we listen to God. But people do confuse between the two. It takes a few minutes to perform each. Especially after waking up in the morning and evening before retiring to bed. How wise should we do these two? Can they be intertwined or practiced differently? What's your thoughts on that and how important is each one to you?

If you believe prayer is talking to god, and meditation is listening, you can argue both are one and the same. As you're describing both sides to a conversation. However, meditation isn't listening to god, but a method in which you clear your mind and relax mind body and soul.

I pray and wait for answers. I don't recall meditating.

Can be done both, when we pray we should know how to listen to God. Not all the talking should be done by us. We should stop during our prayer time and just simple let God do the talking.

Meditation is when you concentrate on God on anything positive with a calm mind. Prayers are the ones when you talk to God expressing your wishes.

I prayed and meditated. When I meditated I felt an amazing feeling. I felt God. I was protected and I felt that everything will be ok. Sometimes prayer makes me feel relieved.

I think they can both go hand in hand with each other and does not necessarily need to be separate entity.

I would define prayer as request for help, or thanks addressed to God or another deity. Not exactly "talking" to God Meditation is not necessary "religious".

If you cannot find the right words to talk to God with, meditation works well too. I simple chant the word "God," as a mantra, and it relaxes me, and occasionally God responds too.

@Laurakemunto We don't believe with our minds, but meditation is supposed to quieten our minds, so that the wrong beliefs go away for a while, and we hear the truth of our heart, and God talking to us then too.

If you have a lot of extra time then go ahead with meditation. Otherwise prayer is enough.
