Warehouse Update Update

Well, we're still at it. Working in the warehouse, that is. At least for now. A couple of days ago we did have a kid come in for an interview who is currently on unemployment collecting $300 a week. We offered him $17 an hour for full time employment and explained that there was overtime often available. His take home pay on average would probably be upwards of $600-$700 a week. He told us it did not seem like a good fit. What does that even mean? So, the search continues. We still have that short term solution of bringing in the warehouse guy from our Arizona branch while the boss and I are on vacation for a week the first week of August. But we need someone soon here. And as for me, despite my involvement and agreement in the firing decision on the last guy, and despite preferring alternatives—I do have a deadline.

600 to 700 is a good take home, is that after tax?

That would be before tax, but still a decent amount of money for many people. Especially someone currently unemployed.

hes dumb, your minimum wage offer is double what he gets bi-weekly and monthly.

I agree. His decision makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Of course its his decision. Still...

He probably prefers to stay home and get unemployment. Did no one ask what he meant by it did not seem like a good fit?

Not that I am aware of. I know that the boss was considering calling him back and getting some clarification and making an argument in favor of him taking the job, but who knows ultimately what either he or the hiree ultimately decide to do.

I hope so too. I do have a deadline, so really it is in everyone's best interest to get this filled sooner rather than later, including mine.

Not a good fit? These are the people that aren't taking all of the open jobs in our country. Good luck finding someone.

I think he needed to explain that fully. If I had been interviewing him he would have.

$600 - $700 a week is a lot of money for me.

Isn't that what the owner or manager of a business tells a prospective employee who is not qualified for the job? I think you've been "gently" told he isn't interested in working there. Good luck finding someone to fill the position.
