Summertime is all about "fun" so I had to include these tunes on my music playlist. The song lyrics just ooze having a goodtime in the summer!
Therefore, here are today's selections. Let's see if you think there fun summer songs...
1. The Hollies- "On a Carousel"
-This 1967 pop song compares developing a romance to riding on a carousel. The ups and downs, going round and round, the chase, and hot pursuit until he finally catches her. A clever use of metaphors and one of the first tunes written by the band members and not outside writers.
Fun fact: Graham Nash who was a member of The Hollies left the band a year later to help form CSN, the supergroup along with Crosby and Stills.
2. Sly & The Family Stone- "Hot Fun in the Summertime"
-This tune has a "hot title" but is a really "cool" song. It celebrates the balmy days when school is out, and the sun is shining. And... going to a "county fair in the summer sun." This track reached #2 on the Hot 100 charts behind "I Can't Get Next to You" by The Temptations.
Fun facts: All seven members in the band shared vocals on this song. Female musician Cynthia Robinson played the trumpet in the band, extremely rare to have a girl horn player in a hit-making group.
3. The Beach Boys- "Good Vibrations"
-This psychedelic track from 1966 fit right in with the changing musical styles of the mid-sixties. The tune was a complete departure from earlier Beach Boys songs both instrumentally and lyrically. The song lyrics definitely had a flower power of love to them.
Fun fact: Brian Wilson wrote/composed this song while on acid (LSD).
TRIVIA CHALLENGE
***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. Let's see how many answers you know. See if you can guess this selection and the bonus...
Name today's tune, artist or facts:
1. This 1972 song was inspired from an outing taken by one of the band members on July 4th in Central Park, NY. It was on a "Saturday" and seeing the steel drum players, singers, dancers and jugglers gave the singer the idea for this tune. It was their biggest chart hit to that point, and also their first gold single, even selling more than "25 Or 6 To 4," which strangely never achieved gold status. This " band has the same name" as a city in Illinois known as the "windy city." The band titled many of their albums with their group's logo and Roman numerals.
- Can you name this song and the group who recorded it?
Bonus:
2. Sly and the Family Stone's first top ten hit was a song with the word "Dance" in the title. Do you remember the complete name of this song?
3. This artist had a song with an "alcoholic drink for a title." Although released in January, the tune, about having a refreshing cocktail on an "island beach" somewhere would fit right in with summer. As this artist famously said in song, "it's 5 o'clock somewhere," a good time to relax with a nice cool drink. And having a "cheeseburger" with it would be "paradise."
-Any idea who this laid-back artist is whose music can be described as "drunken Caribbean rock 'n' roll."
Ok, let's "have a little fun" and solve these answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as James Taylor would say "You've Got a Friend" if you need a helping hand.
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned...

2. Dance to the Music
3. Tequila Sunrise or Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet???
Help!

I'z late again but I did know it was Chicago just not the tune. I'm not a Chicago fan.
Love Sly and the Family Stone, they had a song that was big in 1969, the year I graduated HS, I think it was Hot Fun in the Summertime, not sure though.
You already know that 4walls got all the answers, right?

Chicago is the band
The band Chicago initially had used "transit authority" in their name, but eventually shortened it for simplicity.
Sly had some great tunes. The song "Stand" was a hit tune they released in 1969. "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" was another.
Was that the one you're referring to? Give it a listen...

Of course, I do, FW is the music maestro! But even better is the way she answers my trivia quizzes. It's the good old-fashioned poking fun that tickles my fancy

1. Hmm, I need to take a trip to Chicago to jar my mind about the funny days in the park where every day’s the Fourth of July. Can you dig it? Yes, I can!!
2. Let me get up and dance to the music to see if I can remember the Sly song you’re referencing.
3. Let’s see….Why don’t we get drunk and grapefruit juicy fruit???? Gypsies in the Margarita palace???? Buffett said it took him 20 minutes to write that song. I’m sick of it (it wasn’t the best song on the 45, because the B-side was “Miss You So Badly”), and I’d bet he’d love to do a tour where he did NOT have to sing it. I always liked it when did songs solo in the middle of the set, referring to just himself onstage as “the original Coral Reefer Band.”
Oh I’m sorry, stream of consciousness….I have no clue about the answer.
