Road Trip

I wasn't online at all during the day on Friday. Why? We took a road trip! We went to Shreveport, Louisiana area to pick up a piece of equipment for my husband. It was a good 5 hour drive (one way) with the road construction and driving through all of those small towns with 35 mph speed limits. We had planned on leaving the house early, but it didn't pan out that way. I had decided to stay up and leave. My husband elected to go to bed. He couldn't sleep. He came out of the bedroom at 3 am and I asked him if he wanted me to go fix us some breakfast and then we could leave. He said no, he was going back to bed and try to sleep for a couple hours. That lasted until 4 am when he came back out and said let's eat and run. We didn't hit the road until 5:20 am because he had to go fill up the truck with gas and stop for ice to keep our water cold in the cooler. It would have been a much nicer drive if the roads in Louisiana had not been in such poor shape. They have always had a problem with the roads and hiring qualified contractors. It seems that the lowest bidders do not do quality work. This just keeps the roads full of pot holes and/or under construction. This day out put me another day behind in catching up on things around the house. More on that to come! Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

All the little towns have to make you slow down while you drive through them. They're hoping something there will entice you to stop and spend some money. (We're always driving through little towns with nothing to attract our attention. ) I hope you enjoyed the drive.

The small towns down this way also have those constantly changing speed limits to sucker you into a speeding ticket. I did enjoy the drive. I love going through some of the old towns and looking at the old houses!

@DaddyEvil Taking drives was such a nice leisure thing to do before pandemic!! Can't afford that now! We were thinking of driving out to Lake Okhissa and putting the canoe or kayaks in the water but found out that the Lake is closed right now. I have no idea why. Dissappointing though since we didn't go any during the spring.

@kareng Before the pandemic, Pretty and I would just drive around when we were bored and see what we could find. Sometimes there was nothing we were interested in and other times we spent the day laughing or taking pictures of the interesting things in the world.

In India too the roads are full of pot holes and traveling through roads have become dangerous.

Most (but not all) of the roads that I drive in the US aren't too bad.

It was good except for the accident on the interstate on the way home where we sat at a standstill for about 45 minutes due to two accidents ahead. That was a bad stack up of cars!!

All roads are slow here around, they are narrow and there are speed limits. If we cannot use the highway it takes forever to go from one place to another.

Speed limits are ignored a lot here. I hate to see someone passing going 90mph or more. They deserve a speeding ticket for sure!

@LadyDuck See all roads and intersections in the city here do not have cameras. Mostly main intersections in Baton Rouge at red lights.

@kareng - There are cameras almost everywhere if you pass the speed limit it takes the photo of your car and your plate... it is expensive and after 3 times you lose your driver license.

A 5-hour drive is quite a lot! We never leave on time either. My husband is always a slow starter. Have a good week!

I'm hoping my week settles down some now. I worked at the boutique today so I should be able to get some things done here at home this week.

@LindaOHio It does sound like you will have a busy August!! I have no idea what is happening in August. I do know that I need to get a little mini trip in with my grands before school starts!

@kareng This month isn't too bad; but August will be a killer. Wedding, birthdays, hubby's sister coming into town, his cousin coming at a different time, etc.

This was more of a business trip to pick something up that would have cost more than double us taking the time to go get it. So we saved at least $150 going to get it.

I used to think our potholes were bad until I drove through Louisiana! Yours are nothing to mess with. I even saw a billboard with a message that said, "Four rent: 3 bedroom/2 bath pothole on Main Street." lol

It is crazy! You can't keep your car aligned with the condition of the roads. And not just city or rural. It is ALL of the roads, including the interstates!

@kareng Our city roads are horrible here where I live, but our interstates and turnpike seem to be in really good shape.

They (Louisiana roads) are the worst here in the southeastern or south central part of the U.S. Hands down! They may be the worst in the nation.

That's a shame they can't keep the roads in working order. I guess your right the lowest bidders don't always do the best job.

If the roads are smooth and safe, then I can make my journey anytime, then park somewhere for a sleep and continue.

That was the backup plan, but not needed. They really need to get some better repairs done.
