I'm doing a little test

To see how long my day lilies do last. I thought that they lasted several months each summer, but I'm realizing I might be wrong about that. Or, possibly they used to last several months before the weather became so wonky from climate change.
Time will tell. I've always enjoyed them but never really paid close attention to how long they do actually last.
JJ told me that his lasted about a month from May to June where mine didn't start blooming until the latter part of June. The yellow day lilies did start blooming a week or so before the rust ones did.
The temps here have been so hot that some blooms only last a day or two. Right now they're laying longer because it's been cooler than it was. So, I'm doing a little test to see if they're done blooming by or before August or whether they do make it that far in their growth cycle.
I have two rust colored plants and one yellow one. This pic is in the front of the house and is a very close, close up.

@MarshaMusselman - No, they continue to show up and continue to flower, not all at a time.

@LadyDuck well that's good then. I'll watch and see how long the whole plant lasts.

I didn't know that was where the name came from. Do new stalks show up too or do they all show up in the beginning and flower one at a time?

I've never paid attention before, so we'll see how mine do.

Anna just informed me that they are called day lilies because the blooms only last 24 hours. It's hard to tell right now because it's loaded with blooms. It's hard to know which are new and which were there already.

It's hot here also. I can understand they only last a day, but how pretty they are while they last.

They are pretty. But it's sad when blooms don't last very long.

These won't be getting moved and our temps are pretty humid through the summer months.

It's too cold here in the winters to have them the whole year and it may be too warm in other locations for them to grow during the summer.

I did a bit of research and it appears that Anna and others are right in that each bloom lasts only a day and the whole plant about one month or so. There are newer varieties that will last several months but I doubt those are readily available around here unless they're ordered from a catalog.
I still plan on paying attention to mine though.

Asiatic lilies would last to 8 up to 9 years.

The plants themselves last longer than that here I'm pretty sure. I'm talking about how long they will bloom in the warmer months.

@Nakitakona these are considered day lilies and I've learned that each individual bloom lasts 24 hours but the blooming cycle might only last a month or less.
I'm hoping that they last longer here considering it's a more moderate heat in Michigan usually.
