And then I saw it

I have commented various places to people both online and in person that I have not seen any raccoons here in town. I have seen them dead on the road outside of town. I can even list a zoo full of animals I have seen at my house in the almost seven years I have lived h ere. This morning around five, Angel wanted out. I flipped on the porch light, looked down at the porch through the screen door with my still sleepy eyes. I saw a furry body and tail that I mistook for Lady Cat sniffing at the bottom of the door. I said "oh, you want in!!" and opened the door. The raccoon sniffing at the bottom of the door turned and waddled away. It was not Lady. Add one more critter to my zoo list.

Actually I have found it very curious not to have seen them previously. Where we lived before I even had them come on my porch and cooperatively open a metal trash can to get the dog food for my sister's dogs.

So what else is on your zoo list? I presume you're talking about larger animals, not insects for example, or surely it would be a loooong list!

Yeah, I do not catalog the bugs. Birds even have their own list. Armadillo, coyote, deer, fox, cotton tail rabbit, squirrels,(only the reddish kind here,)possum, skunk that we have seen on our property. Oh, and snakes, rat snakes, hog nose snake,Also in the area, beaver and porcupine, just not seen in my yard. Also suspect Bob Cat and Puma (panther, mountain lion, wild cat) but cannot verify yet.

I haven’t ever seen a raccoon around my neighborhood. A friend lived in an apartment complex and their apartment was right on the edge of the woods. They had a raccoon who’d come up to their door for dinner.

It's probably a good thing it waddled away and didn't accept your invitation to come in.

Raccoons like to dance around on our roof every night. Hubs has caught a couple in the Hav-a-hart trap.

I think you shouldn't open the door with a sleepy eyes. Unless of course if you like to raise a zoo in your yard.
