Looking at this list, I hope you realize just how iconic some of these songs have become. Here’s another song that you’ll probably hear on classic radio and may be oblivious to the fact that it’s now 50 years old. Back to 1972 with another great tune!
Saturday in the Park - Chicago
Well, it’s actually Friday, and I think it’s the 15th of July…..
Man, what a song. Sure, we all play this song when Independence Day falls on a Saturday. And that speaks volumes to this song’s popularity, staying power, and place in musical popular culture.
This also speaks volumes as to what a great band Chicago was back then.

Recorded by Chicago
From Chicago V, 1972
(Today’s 1982 song: “Rock This Town”)
Can you dig it?

I wasn't in school yet nor did I know much about American pop . . . but I knew this song well. My cousins from out of town stayed with us a week and bought this Chicago album at the mall. They played it over and over and over on my parents' stereo that it actually broke the record player needle. My dad was mad and we never got it fixed. ANYWAY - this song stuck with me

@FourWalls When I got older and got interested in music, I started buying those little 45s - 7 inch disks. But I had to rig the needle somehow - like I said, we never got it fixed. Kids today may have no idea what we're talking about

Ah, the days when we literally used to wear a record out from playing it so much. Or in this case, the needle. I ran a needle or two into the ground in my time, so I appreciate the story…even if your parents probably didn’t.

I had a shirt I bought at Goodwill when I was a teenager that was from a Chicago concert. No one else knew who they were. Lol

That’s only acceptable for, say, 1969, before they had any hits.

@FourWalls I was not born in 1969.
It was like 2005 or 2006. So definitely not acceptable.

I know! I showed my brother the list and he was amazed at these songs being 50 years old! And we’re not done yet, more shockers to come!
