Along with the songs from 1982 I’m celebrating great songs from 1972. These songs have lived happily in our lives for fifty years now. What a great testament to the longevity and beauty of music! Sing along with this one from half a century ago.
Song Sung Blue - Neil Diamond
Yeah, I know. This song can’t be 50 years old. If you think that’s bad, “Kentucky Woman” is now 55 years old….AND Neil Diamond released his first single sixty years ago.
It’s heartbreaking that Neil Diamond had to stop touring because of Parkinson’s disease. He still writes, though (I hope you saw his spoof of “Sweet Caroline” during the pandemic…”hands, washing hands, reaching out, not touching me, not touching you”).
And, of course, we will always have his music.

Hmm. I’m trying to find your 1972 wavelength.
I guess this doesn’t get played on rock stations, so you wouldn’t have heard it.

I watched the video of him pandemic “Sweet Caroline,” and you can see a little problem with his hand and hear a little weakness in his voice. Of course, he’s 81 so that could be age as much as Parkinson’s. When he made the announcement he said he wasn’t having severe issues at the moment, and let’s hope it continues that way for years to come!

I wasn’t thrilled with his smarmy period (from about “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” through “Heartlight”), but overall I think his work is great.

@FourWalls As all bands and artists do, they have highs and lows. Coldplay is on a low for me these days.

I haven't hear this yet. As I've told before, I was born in 1977 and mostly I've love 80s music but with the passion of my father playing guitar and singing the 70s I also love the 70s music.

I don’t know if this one will appeal to you. The early 70s had such a wild hodgepodge of sounds that, if you look back on it from the perspective of an era where everything is highly segregated (“90s grunge,” “early 2010 pop,” etc.) you’ll wonder why people didn’t have whiplash from the way the sounds varied so much.
But, for me, it was magical.

@FourWalls Technically, the pop in the 2010 is not magical to me. I still love the pop in the 80s.

@luisga814 — I agree with you about the state of modern music. I posted a song in a group I belong to on Facebook this morning, a Gordon Lightfoot song that was just him and a guitar. THAT is magical to me, not auto-tune and studio gimmicks that could make me sound good.

It’s one of those “go-to” songs when you think of Neil Diamond.

Absolutely!!!
My dear mother of blessed memory would say her son was 40 and she was 27, then add, “I just tell ‘em, I don’t explain ‘em.”

My mom liked this song a lot! She'd sing it a lot. Neil actually showed up at a Red Sox game recently - you probably know they use the song "Sweet Caroline" at all their home games. He sang it and got massive cheers and love from the fans in attendance.

Never have understood how a New York City boy gets his song used by the Y*nk**s’ hated rivals.

Not a Neil Diamond fan. There's very little that he does that I like.
