A Big Headache.

In the United States since the overturn of Roe versus Wade, the abortion issue is causing a big headache for doctors and patients alike. Doctors are at a loss as to when life saving care for a patient should begin. Should they wait until the last minute to save a patient with severe pregnancy complications? Women also are facing tough decisions. A sexual assault survivor chose sterilization. - "so that if she is ever attacked again she won't be forced to give birth to a rapist's baby" Now what if her husband or boyfriend objects? Can she really make that decision on her own? If you are of child bearing age and found your self in that situation, would you take such a drastic step? You can read all about it in this AP report Pixabay image .https://apnews.com/article/abortion-science-health-medication-lupus-e4042947e4cc0c45e38837d394199033

I was raped at 14 and wanted that baby and had him at 15. He is my oldest son and that was the best decision that I ever made.

Judy, what a difficult decision, but so thankful to know what a blessing your son turned out to be. Our daughter got pregnant at 17 and neither she nor her dad and I ever considered abortion. That grandbaby is now 32 and has blessed our family so much.

That is fantastic and thank you for sharing your experience with us. I hope your son didn't turn out like his father. Did you ever look at him and think of your attacker? Did you ever see the man again and does he know about his son?

Wow! What a testimony. Everyone's experience would be different. I am glad you were strong enough to deal with that traumatic experience and that it turned out well in the end.

I think this is just the beginning of some horrendous battles and choices that people will have to make--I suspect this will get quite a bit worse still

@Kandae11 I don't think the solution is to tell women that they cannot get abortions. Abortions will continue, but women and others stand the risk of incarceration as a result.

@Kandae11 I don't disagree.

@divalounger Wow ! Some women can find themselves being fugitives. It "takes two to tango" - men should bear some of the responsibility.

I am not sure here if abortion is legal. I think we should save a life and not resort to abortion

I agree - depending on the circumstances.

I saw a report that Christian physicians try to save both the baby and the mother when her life is in danger. But sometimes in saving the mother, the baby may be too undeveloped to survive. But it's not abortion which is a deliberate act of murdering a preborn baby.

I doubt I'd take such a drastic step but who's to know? It's a minefield at the moment.

Yes indeed. People would have different levels of tolerance. I think women should find a way to defend themselves when attacked by a rapist.

A woman should have control over her own body.She shouldn’t have to be governed by laws.

@Kandae11 It probably has to be because the wife could be unconscious.

@Fleura I believe it’s the woman’s choice unless she’s unconscious.

@RubyHawk. If she is conscious there is no doubt she would say "save me l can try again for another child" . If she is unconscious and the husband has been secretly harboring a desire to be rid of her - a perfect opportunity. I think the doctor should decide .

This is a controversial case. The government should take an appropriate decision. I read about the case of 10 years old girl, that was sad that she was not able to abort her child at first. How can a child be allowed to give birth to a child.

I have a friend whose daughter was raped and that gorgeous baby girl is now 18 and the joy of her mother's and grandmother's life. Even with a rapist father, you are still the mother. Many states still allow abortion up to the moment of birth. Each state makes its own decision.

That is wonderful that it all worked out so well. I would worry that she would see the attacker again every time she looked at her daughter - and also for the child to know they are the child of a rapist.

When it comes to decisions concerning a couple, you must discuss with your husband (or companion) first every drastic decision you intend to take. Would the husband be ready to accept the son of a rapist as his own son and love him and not fear that the kid will be a criminal as his father?

It is a nightmare, I would hate to be a young woman living there now. Of course you hope you will never need anything like that, but accidents can happen to anyone.

This is a very sensitive issue so the law should be flexible too not rigid. I know with every abortion a woman's uterus gets damaged and killing a baby in the mother's wombtoo is murder but with pregnancy complications in a woman and a woman getting pregnant by a rapist has to be kept aside by the law makers. It's really a headache.

@Kandae11 For now, according to petitions coming to my email, codify R vs W, at Federal level to ensure freedom of women's choices.
President Joe Biden said he wanted to fight to codify Roe v Wade into law which would protect a woman’s right to abortion on June 29, 2022. The codification process takes place at the federal…

I'm probably the anomaly here, I know I am in my family, but I was very happy that Roe vs Wade was overturned.
