Gee, I’m always apologizing to people for these posts. This time it’s a “sorry” to NJ Chic, who just “loves” this band so much. She should be thankful she’s so young, because they started 50 years ago so she hasn’t had that entire time to put up with them.
Kicking off the favorites from 1972 is this classic tune.
#10: Do It Again - Steely Dan
Poor Skunk Baxter couldn’t get away from the hangman! There’s a reference to hanging in this song, and then the Doobie Brothers had a song called “I Cheat the Hangman.” He was a member of both bands.
Some acts catch lightning in a bottle with their first album. Steely Dan definitely did. Of course, they repeated the magic for every album in the 70s (despite NJ Chic’s comments to the contrary
).
This song opens that magical album in a powerful away. Half a century later, you can still hear this dark tune on the radio.
Probably for another half a century, too!
Do It Again
Written by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen
Recorded by Steely Dan
From Can’t Buy a Thrill, 1972
(Today’s 1982 song: “Mickey Mouse”)

Gimme some Steely Dan any day of the week. Ah, how the stars align and @NJChicaa have something else to lay an "I agree" claim on. This has always been a groovy spin for me, and right now listening to it, I must admit I am getting my groove on.
I will spare you video as to maintain my manliness and not get anyone thinking any less of me than some already do. lol

Oh, that’s sarcasm. She can’t stand Steely Dan. Guess we need Buffett to cover this song.
I’ll take your word about your groove being in the “on” position.

@FourWalls Well, I guess it stands to reason then. Her and I can't agree on anything EXCEPT we like each other.
It is what it is, I guess. lol

Ah the music of my youth.
Meaning, I smoked a lot of weed.

You go back, Jack, smoke it again, bong turning round and around….
The Navy recruiter, in 1978, did NOT believe me when I said I’d never smoked pot. I still haven’t. (Second-hand at concerts, however…..

@FourWalls There's a first time for everything.
Put it on your bucket list. I will let you do it with me before we demolish the taco salad.

Oh, if we only could do it that way…re-live the good parts, throw out the bad ones.

@FourWalls but you know, a remember this philosophy well that someone once told as fact. If we could go back to a certain time in our lives to do it again, we would still go through all the same things we once went through because that was our fate, so it would not be worth it. I know many things I would like to relive but I can do without them if I would also have to relive the bad,

The version for bald people says “go back, Kojak, do it again.”

I always liked this song. To me it has the same vibe as all my friends know the low rider by War. I'm sure that's not the official name, but what I remember.

“Low Rider” is the name, and you’re right. A lot of those songs in the 70s had anywhere from a sprinkling to a heavy dose of funk in them.

You need to relax, take a deep breath, and tell me how you REALLY feel.

Gee, I think I bought a thrill when I purchased this Steely Dan album? Excellent song! And I'd "Do It Again," I mean buy this album just for this classic tune!
