A Long Winter's River Walk

Here in New Zealand, in the southern hemisphere, it's a cool winter's afternoon. But at least the rain has stopped, so I decided to go for a long walk. I'd heard about a new viewing platform along the river and wanted to see it for myself. Three years ago a new walking bridge across the river was constructed, away from the busy traffic bridge further up the river. You can see it in the photo. The patterns on the walkway are Maori, our indigenous people, and things like this all along the walk tell the story of the river. Anyway, I crossed over and walked for 40 minutes, meeting many people walking in both directions along the way. When I finally reached my destination I was disappointed. The viewing platform was closed off. It was very muddy, I think the river must have risen in the recent storm. However, the walk was enjoyable. It was good to get out and get some exercise after our recent wet weeks. And, I treated myself to a huge icecream when I crossed back to the city side of the river.

This new walking bridge is beautiful, interesting pattern, particularly because it tells the story of the river. We are experiencing the worst heatwave since the temperature are registered here in Switzerland. I cannot wait to see Fall coming.

You had a good ending with that ice cream. We have a sea walk and I am just about thinking of getting there. Been there once.

We watched a NZ film called Juniper at the International Film Festival. The scenery was just spectacular. I always enjoy the NZ films. We've seen a few now and enjoyed every one of them.
