$790 Million Is a Lot of Freakin' Money

How can I not talk about it? The MegaMillions lottery, that is. I mean, it just rolled again and now the Tuesday jackpot is $790 million. I estimate that's worth roughly $237 million after taxes if I take the lump sum, which I would. It will be really fun to see if it rolls again. By Friday's drawing, if no one wins on Tuesday, it could be worth over $1 billion, and since the wife and I will be leaving for Florida on Friday, it means we have a shot at playing in multiple states along the way, adding to the fun of the trip. Granted, when it gets up this high someone tends to win. And even at that, often times multiple people win. Usually two or three, meaning you have to share the jackpot. I don't mind sharing it three ways if I have to. After taxes and taking the lump sum I'd still walk away with $79 million. More than enough to strike my fancy. While the odds are still largely against my actual winning, you can bet I will have a few tickets in my hand just in case. It's just too much money to pass up and not be willing to fork over my $2 for.

Jim, promise me that if you win you will throw a little money my way. And if I win, I'll do the same for you.

@porwest making even more money is smart. You wouldn’t wanna use some of it to travel the world?

@lovebuglena I could do that with the dividends and interest alone. lol. I'd make $14.2 million a year on the investments, conservatively. More than enough to travel the world many times over in the first year. lol

Mostly invest it. I've got a few things I want that I'd get. But mostly the money would be invested.

Me too. Perhaps luck one day will come my way. But as I have said before, I do have the luck of a bald man winning a comb. It is what it is. lol

Yeah, and nobody won the last drawing, so now the drawing for Friday is up to $1.025 billion. It will probably be higher by the drawing since a lot of people are going to buy tickets that normally wouldn't.

I think you believe and rely on lottery a lot.

Actually I do not. The lottery is mostly for entertainment purposes only. The odds are too great you will never win. But it is fun to play and doesn't cost much to play, and someone HAS to win. But no one who does not have a ticket can. Relying on the lottery would be foolish. I rely on saving and investing. But because I have money, I can also afford having a little fun playing on a dream.

Hubs won $6 with his last purchase. I think he will turn those over and buy more tickets. So far there are quite a few of us that are winning -- you, me, Eva and Jeff! Good luck!

@porwest Exactly. Those $2 wins won't buy you any groceries.

Most of the time that is what I do with the winnings too. Just play "on the house" so to speak. Not like the little win changes anything, so why not just play more?

Who the hell wants to be poor? To me there is no such thing as too much money.
