Petite Maman - a French film starring identical twins

We saw several films at the international film festival that starred child actors and we were really impressed with their talent. One film, Petite Maman, starred identical twins, Gabrielle and Josephine Sanz. In the film, they are eight-year-olds and they looked about that age although I couldn’t verify that. There were a lot of scenes shot in autumn in a woods so you can imagine how colourful the trees were. I wonder if both girls will stay in acting and what the future holds for them. They are certainly talented. I don’t have a photo of autumn leaves in France as we weren’t there at the right time but this field of sunflowers caught my eye at the time.

What a beautiful field of sunflowers. I wish I could get some to grow like that here. I can't imagine working like that at 8 years old, I for one was not very bright at that age.

These were very good with their facial expressions. You had to admire them.

@Dreamerby I had never seen fields of sunflowers till we went to France. The paddocks looked so nice.

Identical twins can get a number of deals in movies (or they could before all of this wizardry with technology). I always think of those identical twin censors (played by Dan and Don Stanton) in Good Morning Vietnam as a brilliant use of identical twins in a film.

@JudyEv — there was a movie in the late 50s called The Parent Trap, which had Hayley Mills in both roles. Then The Patty Duke Show had her has “identical cousins.” In Bewitched, Elizabeth Montgomery played Samantha’s cousin Serena as well. So the notion of one actor playing multiple parts was there, but the technology now makes it a lot easier. And you can’t always find identical twins when you need them.

@FourWalls I remember The Parent Trap. Hayley handled the two accents really well.

In Woman at War, an Icelandic film from 2018, the lead character has a twin sister but the one actress plays both parts. You'd never know from the film that it was the one person.

What a beautiful field full of colorful sunflowers. I have just read the full plot of this film, pretty complicated, but interesting.

It is pretty complicated to explain but it works well enough as a movie.

@LadyDuck You are kept wondering if the mother will come back or if she has left for good but in the end she returns and all is well.

I wish the twins that starred in the movie you saw find success either in the entertainment world or a profession that makes them happy.

I hope they are both successful and don't become jealous of each other over time.

@JudyEv I hope so as well since when a member of a family is more famous than their sibling, jealously happens between the relatives.

It would be awesome if both girls continued in the acting field and became big stars.

I couldn't get over how good they were - staring straight into the camera and conveying their thoughts with just the merest twitch of an eyebrow or mouth.

Some of the children are incredibly talented. It can't be easy working in front of cameras.

A mum, dad and little girl go to the grandmother's house to clear it out after she passes away. The mum goes away for some reason and the girl meets another girl in the woods and they become friends. But the friend is actually the mother of the girl. They spend some happy times together then the mother returns and they all go back to the city. A bit complicated The blurb says '.... explores a mother-daughter relationship across time. When Nelly loses her grandmother and arrives at her mother's childhood home, she explores the surrounding woods where her mother built a treehouse. When Nelly's mother abruptly leaves, she meets a girl in the woods.'

I do wonder about children in entertainment. More than a few end up with rough adult lives, of course, many seem to come out okay

I wonder with twins if there wouldn't be some rivalry between them at some stage for starters.

It may not have been released everywhere yet. I'm not sure how new films work. It may not be on Netflix or whatever yet.

It's tough for kids to stay in acting and continue with their education. Hope they can find a good balance. The sunflowers are beautiful.

The film industry is very demanding and especially for children.
