Could you do it?

I have seen videos and read a couple of articles about how a few people are retiring on cruise ships. Some like not being tied down to one area. Some think it is cheaper than living on land. One video mentioned how one guy would live on more than one ship. That sounded complicated to me. I personally could not do it. I'm not rich enough and I would not like to be on the go going from one place to the other often. I like living at one address.
Angelyn Burk ran the numbers and got her husband onboard with the idea

Boating all over the place, this doesn't appeal to me. I love having a stable home, where I sleep in my own bed every night. I don't even like to visit people, overnight. How would they receive medical checkups and prescriptions, as needed?

That's true about the medical issues. What if they needed surgery?

@LeaPea2417 It's just not a wise choice they're making. Can you imagine sleeping on a boat?

@kobesbuddy I agree, especially in a storm with all the rocking, I would be sea sick a lot.

Oh, heck no. I wouldn’t mind going on a month-long vacation but to live full time on a cruise ship? Bah. You wanna do that, join the Navy, they’ll pay you to do it!

@Fleura — true. They will have kicked you to the curb long before that.

Yes, one week cruises are fun, but that is all. And yes the navy is for those sea lovers who want to serve the Country.

I agree. A person would need to be a multi millionaire a couple times over to afford it.

As much as I like to retire from my current line of work and live on a cruise ship, I would pass on the deal since I like being on land and living in a home.

@LeaPea2417 I have been aboard ships that traveled from Colon Panama to New Orleans which lasted four days and four nights. It was kind of slow being inside of a cabin with my relatives,

This would not appeal to me at all. I like being able to live in my home and go outside and be driven somewhere when I want to!

Even if I had tons of money, I wouldn't want to jump from one place to another. I'd probably travel, but I'd always go back to my own home.

Some people enjoy that have a good time doing fun stuff all day. That type of life would not be for me.

I reckon I could do it. After a while the cost becomes quite reasonable as you get discounts the longer you're on board.

Being at sea is a no-no for me, full stop! I do wonder if it really is cheaper than living on land

Wow, we love cruising and it sounds wonderful. I could do it if we didn't have our dog, Jenny. And my husband is not very cost-conscious so he would want a room with more frills than what this couple is probably doing. I do love the idea though.

I think I'm too much of a land lover to do it . Life on a cruise ship would eventually get boring for me. But yah, it definitely wouldn't be cheaper for me.

I would love to for a couple years but it does cost quite a bit. I read where one guy goes on cruises all year and he gets a lot of points to give discounts. When you factor in free food, it can be cost effective. You just can't have "stuff" since you are always getting off onto another.

Yes I read about that man who cruises all year. He is single so he is not paying for family members.

@LeaPea2417 My son said there is a couple that sold their home and now lives full time on cruise ships. They said it's cheaper then paying off their mortgage. One cruise was a 51 day from Seattle to Sydney. They said the idea is to get the longest ship time.

I like long travels or long drives. Our retirement goal is to be debt-free and pay off our mortgage by 2023. Then, we might save up for a trip to Israel. Right now, we are in a very tight budget.

No, not for me! I'll stay a land lubber, lol. I've heard some news stories about cruise ships running aground, being caught in bad weather like a hurricane, or passengers getting ill. Being stranded at sea would not be my idea of a great vacation. But of course, any travel adventure there is a risk of something going wrong. Maybe for a one-time trip it's ok but not a permanent thing.
