Added benefit of Ebaying

I’ve been having a bit of a push to declutter some things that have been hanging around for a while. I have used Ebay quite a lot in the past but then got out of the habit. And then of course Ebay changes some of its system and I have to re-learn what to do all over again.
But finally I have listed some things and many sold, which is great. I’m glad that things I don’t need can go to someone who wants them for a bargain price, and I get a bit of handy cash.
The downside is all the time it takes to wrap, label and parcel up the items and take them to the post office, which can be quite time-consuming.
But yesterday I got an added bonus because as I walked back from the post office, I passed a patch of brambles growing over a fence and gathered one and a half pounds of fresh blackberries!
So that was worth the trip and of course I wouldn’t have seen them if I hadn’t been going that way to post my parcel.

The only reason why I have hesitated selling online is the need to pack and deliver.

I am not on Ebay but on Amazon in. If they did the packing for me I would certainly sell.

Oh wow! I love finding free food.
I had them growing at my last place but not here, just regular raspberries.

Blackberry and apple jelly is my favourite - yum!
The wrapping only costs a few pence for tape, otherwise I re-use padded envelopes, plastic mailing bags, tissue paper, bubble wrap etc that I have saved up. Last week I needed some small boxes - but when I walked through the village to collect Little One from a friend's house it was recycling day and lots of people had left boxes outside for collection, I came home with a whole pile of shoe-boxes and other handy-sized (and clean) boxes. Some with tissue paper or packing paper inside (there's been a big rise in home delivery such as with Amazon since the pandemic, so lots of boxes around). Otherwise I could ask for packing materials on Freegle, but most often I am the one giving excess away because the stuff just seems to accumulate! My neighbour also passes on their newspapers to me, which I use for all sorts of things like drying wet boots, protecting the table from painting activities and the like, and I crumple some of that and use for extra packing if necessary.

The postage has to be calculated before listing, otherwise you can get stung. It's quite complicated here nowadays, the post office changed their prices a few years ago, so it's cheaper to send a larger, flatter parcel than a small but thicker one, which is a bit of a pain, but I've got used to it!
So I work out the cost of postage and either just use that as the postage cost or add few pence extra if it's a big package. Sometimes the postage has turned out to be cheaper than expected and in those cases I gave the buyer a small refund : ) Better that way around than not charging enough!

As for the selling price I worked out last time that selling anything for 99p just isn't worth the hassle because of the fees, so the starting price has to be at least 1.99. Other than that I'm happy to just sell things for a few pounds, I just want them out of the way and the money does add up. I often buy clothes for the girls from Ebay for good prices (and they've had lots of compliments on their pretty and quirky clothes!) too so what goes around comes around!
I'm not in it to make a fast buck, I describe everything as well as I can, including the item's history if appropriate, add plenty of photos, and pack it up well. I've got over 500 feedbak ratings, half as a seller, and 100% positive with lots of lovely comments, so people seem to be happy.

I do had EBay account before but been deleted due to inactivity. I'm not using it as it's not available for delivery here in the Philippines.

How lucky for you finding those blackberries on your way to the post office. Getting stuff sold on Ebay is a win win for you

I've given up Ebay for the moment as our postage service is really expensive and not terribly reliable. In short, it's gone to the dogs.

I sell on eBay also and I agree with you. The worst part is having to pack items up and ship them. I love the thrill of hearing that Cha-Ching on my phone when I have a sale though. That definitely makes my day! Congratulations on the blackberries bonus!
