There are obviously going to be a lot of cars in this countdown of songs that have a brand in the title of the tune. I could almost do a top ten car brands. I might yet, so hold your STP. Meanwhile, here’s a well-known brand and a pretty well-known song. #10: Pink Cadillac - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band It’s not true anymore, but when I was a kid the Cadillac was the luxury vehicle. It was the symbol of wealth and luxury. Now, my little ol’ Honda CR-V has all the luxuries that my parents’ boss’s 1973 Caddy had! As for this tune, this was the B-side of “Dancing in the Dark” in 1984, and it got a lot of airplay because people were probably sick of “Dancing in the Dark” a week after it came out. That was the highlight of the “Brucemania” days. I guess Brucemania still exists, because I saw an article on a news website earlier this week that people are paying more for ONE Springsteen concert ticket than I paid for my new roof. (And I’m getting 24-month financing on the roof! ) I saw him twice on that tour, and let me tell you, he puts on a fantabulous concert. Not $14,000 worth, though. Anyway, this song (as well as another forthcoming brand of car or two) just screams sex. That has been pretty common throughout music: from the subtle (“you can go as far as you like with me” in “In My Merry Oldsmobile” by Bing Crosby) to the explicit (Ted Nugent’s “pretend your face is a Maserati” in “Wango Tango”). This is not along Ted’s route but you don’t have to think too hard to get the message of “Eve tempted Adam with an apple, but man I ain’t going for that, I know it was her pink Cadillac.” Here’s an interesting tidbit: according to Picky Wedia, Bette Midler wanted to cover this song, and Bruce said no. This wasn’t too long after she’d covered the Rolling Stones’ “Beast of Burden,” and even had Mick Jagger in the video with her. What, Springsteen was worried she was going to ask him to be in the video, too? Natalie Cole ended up covering the song in 1988, having a top ten hit with her rendition. So take it away, Bruce. I’ll keep my Honda (“my love is bigger than a Honda, it’s bigger than a Subaru”) and you can have your Caddy. Pink Cadillac Written by Bruce Springsteen Recorded by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Released as a single, 1984 (Covered by Natalie Cole, 1988) Product: Cadillac automobile Anyway, we don’t have to drive it:

@FourWalls How did you know we owned a Cadillac Seville for years? (My wife drove the Caddy but I owned Daytonas until I couldn't buy them anymore. Now, I drive a Buick Le Sabre. ) It's NOT my fault! You're choosing songs that aren't in the lineup that my exes listened to...

You can skip Bruce all together and just go to work for Mary Kay Cosmetics and get a pink Caddy.

We used to call cars like this 'Yank tanks'. You didn't see too many of them around - you still don't - not the great big things that take up two parking bays.

We think about “compact cars” now, but everything looked small compared to a Caddy back in those days!

You have to say you know it. Not necessarily that you LIKE it, but you are in New Jersey.

I’d think you’d probably know Natalie’s version over Bruce’s.

I remember this song, I always thought it was funny. That was funny--people were sick of dancing in the dark a week after it came out.

Well, it’s true. When the video to “I’m on Fire” was released MTV played it every hour on the hour for an entire weekend.

Know this one well, but my car is the '57 Chevy because I got a chance to ride in plenty of them when I was just a little time, My parents had friend who owned these cars and since we had not car they would drive us to places
