Moving on up

I spent the last few years dumping and finding ways of not bringing things when we moved, This means that the largest shed is still partially filled with boxes of books. The shelves that hubby built stayed in our last house. Books. I am a fan of art books and garden books. I was given a large and heavy book on Maxfield Parish- total beauty. Sublime. The Impressionists. I did not have the nerve to dump such large and lush books at the Goodwill. Today the twin bookshelves that we ordered arrived. More work for hubby. I packed the Parish book up the steps but he had the job of getting the bookshelves to the upper hallway. He also has been busy packing books from the shed to the upper story of the house. Tonight I will arrange the shelves. It's been a happy couple and busy hours for us.

I do have a collection of books that I value, not very many though. I look back to them at times, for information or to read a familiar story over again. The Strong's Concordance and Large Dictionary belong to Jay, but I use them whenever I need to. I love books!

@sallypup I tend to enjoy self-help books, health information and mystery stories.

Soon your home will be exactly the way you want it. I almost wish I could move but I'm used to this place now and fairly comfortable.

@rebelann I can't believe we moved. Then again, about 22 years ago, we suddenly moved East due to hubby getting the social worker job.

@rebelann I love this house. It's not a Victorian mansion but it has charm.

@sallypup I have thought about seeing what we could get for where we are at. Setting it up contingent on us finding another place in that price range. But thats a lot of hassle. Especially since I still want to stay in the country.

@wolfgirl569 If I were younger and healthier I would not have moved. Plus that part of my state is so dry.

@wolfgirl569 I guess I am in heaven- I am an addict of all things antique-vintage-junk. So here I am in a 122 year old house. I miss the land and the freedom of movement and yet this is a good place to be.

My favourite part of unpacking was rearranging all my books on the bookshelves. I did get rid of a lot of books but most of what I have now will be somebody's else's problem when I go.

@JudyEv I love your attitude. Pretty soon I plan to go upstairs and unpack books. That old walnut tree's leaves hit the bedroom windows so it feels like I am in a tree house when I am in my bedroom.

@JudyEv I found wonderful flotsam from past times. Old mail from my Mom, old photos, an envelope from daughter when she was in University. Treasures. And rocks. Love rocks.

There is not much that's as exciting and arduous as packing up a home, especially when you have a ton of stuff. I'm glad you are taking your books with you, though. I almost never throw away or give away books, because I'm afraid I might want to read them again, though I rarely do.

I carefully looked at all the books we had before we made this move- 5 hour drive- and yet I just couldn't part with certain books and for sure not my coffee sized garden and art books.

I love my books and have shelves full. Some I trade at the book box but others I keep.

I love reading but I seldom buy books now because there are too many in my apartment already. I sometimes donate my books to the library of the community center.
