Remodeling the bathroom is no fun

Renovating the entire bathroom means looking for vanities, faucets, shower systems, bathroom tiles, and other things. It is no fun. Frustrating even. Especially since there are many options to choose from and it's hard to settle on one thing. And figuring out the shower system thing is not easy. I am not a plumber nor an interior designer. Putting stuff together is not something I am good at. Things have to be cohesive, they have to match, and they have to look good too. The contractor already wants us to pick out shower stuff so he can figure out what he needs to do with the plumbing for the bathtub. I have no idea exactly what I need to get, however, I do have an idea of how it should be and the brand I want, which is Grohe. I want a big shower head coming from the wall, a shower with a hose, a faucet to fill up the bathtub with water, and a thing that has all the knobs.

@lovebuglena Just reading what you are going through makes me very exhausting. How long will it take to do this?

Well, the contractor has been here a week already. But he doesn't work on the weekend and Thursday he didn't come because no one was home. It's gonna be at least a few more weeks I think. Also depends on when we order things for the bathroom and when they will arrive.

@Hannihar Let's hope so. Hard when you are not an interior designer to pick stuff that will go great together.

It seems it's an overhaul renovation of your bathroom. It's of course a lot of work to be done.

It's gonna be a brand new bathroom after everything is done.

@Nakitakona It is. And that means no more leak to deal with. However, it's frustrating having to look for all the stuff in stores/online. Especially with so many options and also not knowing what's best for the shower system setup.

I gotta rush on getting the shower stuff for the bathtub and the bathtub itself. If that takes a while it will hold up the contractor guy. Interesting though that the guy works for the MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) and does house remodel and plumbing stuff.

You could always ask the contractor for ideas... It's even possible he has pictures of previous bathrooms he's renovated that he could show you so you can get ideas. Things are only complicated if you want them to be complicated.

That is a good idea. Did not think to ask him.

@lovebuglena Hopefully, he'll actually have pictures of previous bathrooms he's installed. If he doesn't have any, you might suggest that he start a "scrap-book" showing his bathroom remodels or new installs for just such occasions like this. It's possible he never thought of it, too.

@DaddyEvil He recommended that I find a plumbing supply store and go there for help in getting what I need for the bathtub. And I can call him if I have any questions.

I would feel much better about picking things out if there weren't so many choices available. If I was renovating a bathroom, give me three choices to pick from. I feel overwhelmed when I go to a home improvement store or look online and there is 4,317 different choices for bathroom decor. lol

@lovebuglena It definitely would make things easier, but the trade off is having to pay someone for that responsibility. I guess that sometimes it may be worth the money to hire an interior designer.

@moffittjc Have you heard of Chip and Joana Gaines? They had that Fixer Upper show on HGTV. Would be nice to have that kind of experience. You figure out with them what you want but they do everything (or so it seems like). All you have to do is pay them.

We need to update one of our bathrooms too. I think it would be fun to choose everything; and I have a specific style/look in mind. Try to make it fun. Good luck!

It can be fun but not when you are pressed for time. Like if I have to pick and buy everything in under a week that is hard to do, especially since hubby works.

@LindaOHio Nope. Not even close to buying. And it's worse when it comes to all all that shower stuff for the bathtub. Seems I gotta go to a plumbing supply store for help with that.

Grohe is German, a good brand, this is what we have installed here.

@lovebuglena Better that you check everything, it is true that not always things are compatible.

@LadyDuck The contractor my mom hired told me to go to a plumbing supply store and talk to them about the shower stuff, that they can help me pick what I need in the brand I want.

That is what I am looking at. I have a bathtub and I need a big showerhead, a showerhead with a hose, and a spout to fill up the bathtub. Then I need a 3-way diverter to switch between the three, and a pressure valve where you switch between hot/cold water. These two also have rough-in valves. Seems I have to buy them as well just to insure they are compatible.
