Recharged, But My Mind Still Made Up

Vacations are always a good thing. Gets the batteries all reset and recharged. I am actually thinking I should be able to be much more productive when I get back to work tomorrow. I was really burnt out, let me tell you. At the same time I am not going to sit here and tell you that I am looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. I am recharged, yes. But the idea of retirement has not left my mind, and the one thing I know for sure is that what vacation does is solidify the idea in my mind that I don't want to be committed to a job anymore. So, of course I will be that much more committed to and that much more focused on getting that retirement thing finalized. ***Picture inside our Florida house of my great nephew Geno, my niece's son. That's my mom coming down the stairs and me and my brother-in-law chatting about the mechanics of building these beach houses as machinery across the street were driving pillars into the sand while we were there.***

I really hope an earlier retirement works out if you can manage it. Life is short.

@porwest Not to be weird, but that last paragraph should be crosstitched or something. Very profound.

Not to sound flippant, but I have been planning for retirement for 30+ years. You don't get to the finish line by the seat of your pants. You get there by planning, investing, planning some more, investing some more, and keeping at it. Paychecks are not just for bills. They are for the future. Retirement is not about crossing the bridge when you get there. It's about building the bridge so you know it can be crossed.

My husband is in the same boat you are. He's exhausted and burnt out. And, while he's recharged slightly, he had me file his retirement paperwork. He's just bummed that his first check won't come until the end of December, because his birthday falls in October.

I have been good enough to plan to not have to rely on a check to retire. My dividends from investments should cover that well enough on its own. But I definitely know the feeling. I think I burned out much sooner. I am only 49. lol

How many more years before you can retire?

I can technically retire now. But my wife and I simply make too much money to leave it on the table. I am thinking in two years is when I will pull the plug. I will be 51.

I did not plan my retirement except to ensure I had enough to get by. I wish you the best of luck in your planning and going through it.

@porwest For that, better to retire when one has years of active life left in us.

You are recharged after the vacation to get back to work, but are you that worked out that you are thinking of retiring?

Yes. I just want to do my own thing, pursue my own goals, and not be bogged down by a job anymore.

I have plenty of those. I like to write. I like to play, write and record music. I enjoy traveling. Fishing...many things. I could definitely fill my time. I am sure I would get a LITTLE bored. But it's still better than working. At least I think so.

As someone once told me, "A future is only a dream unless you plan and do the things you need to in order to make it a future that happens." Most people get to the finish line and say, "If only I had___." I try not to be that guy. lol

Have you noticed that by the time we are in our forties, we are sick of all the bull and don't want to work anymore, yet "they" keep extending full retirement age further and further toward our deaths?

I do notice that, which is why I have never played by the rules and make my own money through investing so I can do whatever I want, not what someone tells me I have to do. It has worked well for me.

Yes, do what you need to in order to finalize your retirement. I highly recommend it, LOL! Now all I have to do is putter around the house and make a few dollars on the odd work-at-home job from my computer (for my Amazon purchases, etc.) By the way, Geno is absolutely gorgeous and looks so happy! Thank you for sharing his pic!
