Dance Blasts From the Past!

I just recently wrote about my nostalgia over disco songs. Now I'm wondering what kind of dances (from any era) that you might remember. I remember the Hustle and the Bump, which I actively (groan) participated in, and from before my time, the Mashed Potato and the Madison. Does anybody else here remember any particular dances that you either do, used to do, or that you've heard of? The only dance I do these days is the Sit in My Chair and Mess About on My Computer Dance, LOL! Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

Yes, I remember my cousin Donna painstakingly showing us younger cousins how to do the Hustle!

There are so many of them . Back in the day people seemed to be dance crazy-- dances came out one after the other so fast.

That is true. I'm kind of out of the loop as far as new dance crazes, so I don't know if they come out one after the other so fast anymore.

KC and the Sunshine ..anything they sang was fine with me. I saw them at 6 Flags in St Louis or outside of St Louis years ago before my son was even born.

I always loved that song “Ain’t Gonna Bump No More With No Big Fat Woman” by Joe Tex. Heck, my mom even liked it! I remember the songs (“Loco-Motion,” “The Twist,” etc.) but I was never much on dancing. You know that saying, “Dance like nobody’s watching”? If anyone were watching me dance they’d call an ambulance thinking I was having a seizure!

Four Walls, let me just say that I looked up the song "Ain’t Gonna Bump No More With No Big Fat Woman” by Joe Tex. And oh, my goodness, I haven't laughed that hard in a while. It was when he was singing it on Soul Train. It was already funny enough, but then a large-ish woman danced onto the stage and started doing the bump with him, and it knocked him straight onto the floor! I'm sure it was all staged, but it looked extremely legit, LOL! Thanks for letting me know about this gem of a song!

Oh, yes! The Macarena was popular when we got married, 1996! We were on a cruise, and we danced to the Macarena in the ship's disco!

I remember the Twist, The Stroll, the Loco-motion, the swim, the Watusi. Those were the musics of the 50s and 60s.

I remember doing the Bump. Wasn't a big fan of Disco so the hustle was not on my dance card. Here are a few Oldies dance crazes that were popular: The Twist, The Jerk, Watusi, Swim, The Frug, Bunny Hop. And a couple from the 70's/80's, Y.M.C.A and Moonwalk.
