Off And Running Again

It's that time to head back out for another work road trip. This time back in through Wichita, Kansas and Kansas City. I will head out tomorrow morning and be back home on Friday. It is always a love, hate thing these days. The long spans in the truck, driving can put my back all to hell, and of course the hotel rooms don't leave much room for comfort either. At the same time, it does get me out of the office for a few days and of course, I get a little break from the wife. Hey, she gets a break from me too. lol It is what it is, it's good money and the trips are usually profitable, if not on the front end, certainly on the back end. And of course, it must be done. Sometimes it does afford me a bit more time to spend with the fine folks here as well. So, I GUESS that's a plus? Some might say yes. Others might be violently shaking their heads no. Onward and upward.

I love road trips and would probably enjoy work trips like that to some extent, although if I had to do it constantly I may not enjoy it as much.

It has its plusses and minuses for sure. I think they were more enjoyable than they are now at one time.

@porwest I guess things can wear on us or change over time. I used to love long road trips, especially driving at night. Nowadays, I hate driving at night.

@moffittjc It is weird for me because I have become the same way. The glare of the headlights drives me insane. I just can't do it like I used to. Hell, when I was younger I could drive straight through for 14 hours. Now I get three hours in and am looking for a hotel. lol

I guess it would be more exciting if I didn't go to the same places every time. lol

Kudos to you for being among the truckers still doing their jobs. People don't realize how important you guys are until they go the the grocery store to empty shelves. Travel safe.

@porwest The part about long spans in the truck confused me. Have a good trip anyway.

I agree with you 100%, the importance of truckers and the work they do to make sure we have what we need. Although, I am not a trucker. lol

@clrumfelt lol. No worries. The company is a Silverado diesel. I am in sales and spend a lot of time on the road visiting my customers. I sell parts for concrete mixer trucks and concrete batch plants.

In the eight years I have been doing this, she has not come along yet. But she is able to if she wants to. But of course she works too and she'd have to take time off to do it. I think she would be bored.

@lovebuglena Not really. She'd have no transportation, and I am never in the same place for long.

Those long hauls can be tiring and lonely. I knew a guy whose wife rode with him. Does your wife ever go with you? Do you wear one of those wide support belts for your back?

@porwest It has to e boring driving a truck on the highways all day. You should wear a back brace. They’re helpful for a bad back.

My wife can go, but of course she works too and would have to take time off to do it. It would be fun, and we have talked about it. But I think it would be boring for her. I don't wear anything for my back.

Have a good time and be safe. It is always good to try something different and new, like a change of scenery. Even though it is for work, try to work in some fun as well. I'm not married but can understand how great it can be to miss each other for a few days and just focus on yourself. Take care and be well ya.

Once I am "into" it, it gets better. It's the getting into it part that is the hard part. lol

I am not sure I would have wanted a job that included travel. I like to travel for leisure, on my time schedule. I wish you safe travels

My ex LOVED all of the traveling he did for his last company--whether it was just a day trip to DC on Amtrak or overnights/multiple days to Chicago, Charlotte, Boston, CT, Denver, San Francisco, etc. It was all too hectic for me but he thrived with it. Now that he is back at his former company (as the head honcho) he doesn't get to travel or even work from home any longer.

I certainly don't mind it. I am not sure I necessarily WANT to do it though. It depends, I guess, because again, it's nice to get out of the office for a bit.

I agree with everything you said except that I don't need a break from my hubs. I wish I could spend more time with him. Keep that retirement date in mind!
