I am sure you have heard of the phrase "A silver lining in the dark cloud." In the case of Arbutiis Maryland resident James Howard due ti motion sickness that prevented him from going on a cruise with his wife, his mother in law and his two grown children had some free time on his hands to buy a $5 dollar "Monopoly X20 scratch off ticket at a Pantry Food Market in Halethortope earlier this week. James was very happy that he won the $50,000 grand prize. While James was at the headquarters of the Maryland Lottery headquarters to cash in his winnings, he contacted his mother in law and his wife and children that he won the grand prize. James has mentioned that after he collected the winning lottery ticket money, he will buy a new auto, do some projects around his home and save the remainder of the money for his relatives and himself. Keep in mind that Joesph is a person that can afford to buy lottery tickets since the odds of winning a huge lottery ticket is rare.

Lucky man. Good thing he stayed home and bought the lottery ticket. If he buys a new car he won’t have much money left over.

After paying taxes his winnings will be smaller for him to buy a new auto.

@RubyHawk Since the tax rate in some states is pretty high.

@Deepizzaguy That’s right. He’ll pay a bundle of tax.

He has a lot of ambition for a $50,000 win that will likely only be $30,000 after taxes. He won't get much of a car even, for that. lol. Best of luck to him. It seems like a lot of money, but really isn't. But a windfall is a windfall and I am not saying I would turn it down. I just think he thinks it's more than it really is based on what he thinks he will be able to do with it. lol

Money these days after paying taxes after winning the lottery does shrink the chances of getting items like cars and houses.

@porwest You have a good point there since not everything that glitters is gold.

@Deepizzaguy Yeah, the guy who won clearly thinks it's way more money than it actually is. But hey, let him have his fun right?

That would be ample compensation for him having to miss the cruise.
