Bathroom remodel not going smoothly

The bathroom remodel should go smoothly yet that isn’t the case. The plumber had issues installing the drain system for the tub because the space is tight and the tub we got is different than what we had. He had to get a new drain system because the new one we bought didn’t fit. So now we are stuck with ours as he didn’t use it and it cost us over $100. I hope he or the contractor didn’t throw it out. Then he did the plumbing wrong and had to redo it. Then the Grohe tub spout with diverter seemed to be defective and water was coming out of both the faucet and the shower. I called Grohe and they shipped out a replacement. I hope this one will work as it should. Also the mechanism that closes the drain and lets the tub fill with water isn’t working, even though it seemed to work when he first installed it so he is coming back to fix that. Contrator said I can get a 36 inch vanity but now he is saying it will be a tight fit. Also, the box it was delivered in says slightly more than 37 inches. Same for the sink. I hope that’s not the actual size because then we have a big problem. We may even have a problem if it’s 36 inches if our space is 36 inches, especially because we are putting tiles on the walls there. Also, the store we got the bathroom stuff from doesn’t accept returns. When I told the store guy about the spout being defective he told me to contact Grohe. He didn’t say he will get me a new one and take that one back or that he will give me a refund. So if the vanity won’t fit we are screwed. And then the walls are not even. I hope that won’t affect the tile work much. And if I am to have the floor tiles placed diagonally then the amount of tiles we got won’t be enough. Might have to forget about the diagonal placement then.

Stores that sell that type of thing never accept returns. They always tell you to contact the manufacturer. Usually, the manufacturer doesn't want the part back, either. No wonder you haven't been on myLot lately. I hope things go smoothly with the rest of the remodel.

@lovebuglena Yeah, it's up to the stores if they accept returns or not.

@DaddyEvil I am worried now that if the vanity won't fit into the space it's supposed to fit into that I won't be able to return it and get one in a smaller size.

Had I bought Grohe product in Home Depot they'd have taken it back. Grohe chat support told me stores must accept returns of Grohe products. Apparently not lol.

Thank you. Plumber guy, instead of working a few hours on stuff took many each time, especially when he had to leave to buy stuff.

@RebeccasFarm maybe our house isn’t constructed well in terms of space or the way plumbing stuff should go. Or maybe it’s him lol. But he told me contrator hired him probably because he thought he’s the only one who can do this.

I just hope that in the end everything will work out. Don’t want to have to deal with any more issues. Especially if vanity won’t fit.

Yep. I cannot wait for the master bath to be done already so I stop worrying if all will be well.

My dad was a contractor, and I did some construction work with him for several years back in my younger days. One of the things he always told me is to always expect the unexpected, and that renovations never go according to plan, because you never know what you're going to find when you start ripping old things out to put in new things. Sorry to hear you are having to experience renovation nightmares, but it is something probably everyone goes through at least once or twice in their lives. Hopefully everything will work out for you in the end.

@lovebuglena Make sure you take pictures documenting any damage. I would contact Grohe again and let them know that the replacement they sent is damaged and that you would like a new one.

I want things to go smoothly but of course that ain't the case. Plumber tried to install the Grohe tub spout with diverter and when he did that it didn't work. When he pushed down the diverter water was coming from both the tub spout and the shower. He went to Home Depot to get some cheap spout with diverter just to see if that one would work and it did according to him. I took it to mean that ours is defective. I contacted Grohe telling them what I got doesn't work and they sent me a replacement. It arrived today. The delivery guy threw the package on the floor. When I opened it the Grohe box was not fully intact and there is a spot on the spout that is slightly damaged. I am tempted to contact Grohe about this. Wonder if I should. I hope this spout is gonna work once it is hooked up. Would be screwed up if it doesn't work either. I don't know what I'd have to do in that case. Store won't give me my money back. Especially since when I told the store that the spout didn't work they told me to contact Grohe, not to bring it back to them for a refund or exchange.

Oh dear, what a lot of headaches! It's really annoying when places won't take defective parts.

My old vanity was 35 and change. Contractor said 36 is ok when I asked him.

@LindaOHio Logically you shouldn't be able to fit a 36 inch object into a 36 inch space, tile or no tile on the wall. If it won't fit it's gonna be a major problem as I am sure the store won't take it back.
