Small Health Report

Bob was up for a while today. He refuses to go to Urgent Care and it seems to me the worst is past.
No fever, diarrhea or vomiting. Just a sore gut. He had some tea sweetened with honey and a few oyster crackers as they are about like saltines only small. I would say he had the equivalent of four saltines.
It is cool and rainy today. At 3:45 it was 58F with drizzly rain. The rain will be stopping. I was cool, my stomach hurts likely because I hardly ate yesterday. No fever.
As I consider all the ways we might have been exposed I come back to the idea that it is something some kid at school had and I was in proximity too long.
Bob was on very powerful antibiotics for about ten weeks. I am sure it has weakened his immune system and he is paying for it now that he is no longer taking them.
Tomorrow should be a better day.

I am thinking I was just upset yesterday. Bob is scared to eat anything still today.

The doctors were surprised he did so well, but I gave him homemade yogurt the whole time he was taking the antibiotics, and that kept him from getting thrush or rashes, because it is a good source of acidophilus and other healthy gut bacteria. He is not eating it now, and really should, or like you said, take it orally.

@GardenGerty that’s awesome you make it at home. I’ve never tried that. I bet it’s really tasty.

I bounce back pretty quickly. I think I was stressed over him. He is still iffy about eating anything.

@GardenGerty You would feel responsible for both of them so it's a lot to take on.

Great, worst passed and your husband seems on the mend! It's difficult when family refuse to see doctor.

They would likely just tell him to do what we are doing. Next step is to get some food into him.

He was on Ensure + for a long time. Eventually it was making him nauseous. I can and will make him some home made protein shakes soon.

I do think it put him out of balance to eat all that fried food. Someone has suggested some acidophilus (shannybanany) and I may see if we have some on hand. I still have yogurt, but he is still afraid to eat.

@LadyDuck I never knew that. He has a prescription but does not take it. He prefers to eat yogurt.

@GardenGerty Do not give him acidophilus without consulting his doctor. The most common effect of taking too much acidophilus is gas and indigestion, cramps and diarrhea. He does not need more problems.

I hope he does too. Gotta get some calories in somehow, though.

Hope your ailments are over soon. If it's raining there, stomach problems are inevitable. Here in India too people are suffering from stomach ailments because it's often raining.

This is the first rain we have had in a while, but I do know children at school are unwell. I was hurting from worry, I believe. We are not into our real rainy season just yet.

@GardenGerty In India too it doesn't rain heavily now, so maybe this untimely rain is giving people stomach ache.

Hope Bob gets better soon. Too much of antibiotics are not good in long run. One should resort to antibiotics only when it's really needed.

He had to have them. There was infection in both sides of his pelvic bone and he had an abscessed muscle. They wanted to see if they could clear it with antibiotics rather than have surgery and it was successful. It did, however, affect his stomach, I am sure.

@GardenGerty I can understand. Sometimes we have no option but to go for antibiotics as it is better and safer treatment than the other options that doctors suggest. I took steroids for more than an year despite knowing the side effects. But then it was safer than the surgery that was another option.
Antibiotics do kill the healthy gut bacterias too. That's why it effects our stomach.
I hope that he feels better soon.

Too much antibiotics aren't good for the body especially the person's immune system.

There are times where you have to weigh the risks. He needed them but they did cause worse things.
