If I Could Save Time in a Bottle

Like the Jim Croce song lyrics in "time in a bottle", How wonderful if we could bottle "time" to be portioned out when needed. I often think about "time" now that I am older compared to my younger years when we had no time to think about "time" since we were too busy thinking about the daily affairs of our lives. Two quotes come to mind. The Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw's “Youth is the most precious thing in life; it is too bad it has to be wasted on young folks.” I confess to doing so many foolish things in my youth. "Man proposes, God disposes" is a title of an 1864 painting by Edwin Landseer. It was inspired by the search for a lost expedition that disappeared in the Arctic. In the end, nothing really matters. I'm less stressed now that I have adopted the attitude of enjoying each moment since bad things as well as good things don't last forever. Do you think this attitude is too severe?

Your attitude is the same that I have now that I´m old. I call it wisdom

Life is unpredictable. Nothing lasts forever. I plan for the future but live in the moment. I always believe that contentment is the key to happiness.

How true. With contentment comes peace of mind.

The past is gone and it will never come back, the future is not granted, live the present and enjoy every day. I stopped worrying, finally we cannot change the future we cannot prevent everything.

The only thing we can change is our attitude. But I hope I can maintain my sense of humor in my dying moments and come up with gems of wit like "Do you wish to be remembered? leave a lot of debts behind."

@josie_ I was thinking to pile up debts just before dying to punish those greedy ones who are only waiting to see us go to inherit money.

I don't see a problem with your attitude. It's how most of us think when we become a little older. It helps keep us sane.

@josie_ I don't want to live if I become senile or insane.

@DaddyEvil I don't like becoming senile in my old age but I can live with insanity. "No great mind existed without a touch of madness"~Aristotle. But there is discrimination in being insane. If you're poor, they call you crazy but if you have money, you're eccentric.

A good philosophy. Good thing youth is wasted on young folks. Fools make the world go round.

That's the attitude that comes with the experience and it's called wisdom , when you care less and live more. Youth is wasted on young folks. But then it's the foolish, stupid, impulsive, and careless things that we do makes youth the most precious time of life

OK, I hear you. Maybe I'll get a chance to relive those "glory days" since my second childhood might be coming soon. Hopefully not because of declining mental capabilities.

@josie_ I like that. I admire your sense of humour. I am going through the mid age in my forties and I admit that my mid age crisis is quite manageable as I have got wisdom in time

Enjoying each moment is the way to go. Time diffuses situations specially the bad ones

Had some rough times recently myself, but "God makes all things beautiful in His time." I had to keep thinking that.

I like that attitude life is to short not to be happy and enjoy what you have.

Drawing on the good times at least for me is a great way to take a respite from those troubled times. Sweet memories I call it! Or as you say, time in a bottle, a great song by Jim by the way. Life is a journey traveled with many ups and downs, so enjoy the highs while they last. For they too shall pass into your next highway on one's journey in this life. And when this life passes into the next you will find everlasting peace with the Lord.

I have long since lost my religion. If there is anything similar to our world in the afterlife, this too shall pass.

What do you mean by severe? Is it too much? Or serious?

"Severe" may have been the wrong word. A stoic would have described this post as being fatalistic.
