Her and I have a love/hate relationship with the food I make, which actually adds to the entertainment of our our many conversations around food. So, this dish is just for her. I always get a quart of shrimp fried rice when I order Chinese, and I almost never eat it just like that. I prefer to make a 'concoction' out of it. I chopped up some kielbasa and fried that up in the Wok. Then I added some onion and green pepper. Fried that up for a bit. Then I added in the shrimp fried rice and fried that all up for a bit, with a little dosing of teriyaki sauce added for good measure. This is dinner tonight, and I know it will be good because this is not the first time I have ever made this. What's going on your dinner table tonight?

@DaddyEvil What is it about rice you don't like? Texture? Flavor? Both?

Man, I love rice. In fact, I enjoy it more than pasta most of the time.

NJ Chicaa hated this food you prepared. I like fried rice. I used to eat it when I was a kid.

Fried rice, or anything Chinese, is tops on my list of things to eat. I am a sucker for it.

@Nakitakona I cook some, but it never turns out quite as good as the real thing.

Being honest, it sounds better than it looks. But I would definitely enjoy it.

There are a lot of foods that don't necessarily look good that are quite delicious. I always consider soups. Many of them look like someone threw up but we always say it looks good when in reality if it was on the floor, we'd be sure someone had gotten ill.

Your concoction reminds me of when I was around 14 and took over doing the cooking since both my parents worked. I made many gourmets meals, I was collecting gourmets cookbooks. My parents loved both the fact that they didn't have to worry about cooking when they got home from work, and the fact that the meals were different every night. Well one night I decided to make a gourmets pie with various beef and veggies. It didn't go exactly to what the picture was like, but I served it anyhow. My parents and I sat down to the meal and Father served up the pie. We all were served and my Mom took one look at the pie and loudly announced "What's this? Barf on a crust???" After spending 3 hours making the pie from scratch I was devastated. I sat and cried. Then my parents took a bite. They ended up eating the whole pie. I was apologized to, and they told me that they expected the meals to be terrible. They were happy to be eating such "marvelous" meals and never put them down again, even if they looked like "Barf on a curst." L & H's

lol. I can see where that may have been a less than inviting reaction to something you worked so hard on. At least in the end it all turned out and everyone enjoyed it way more than they thought they would when they first laid eyes on it.

I was so stuffed with that salad I had for lunch that I just had yogurt and fruit for dinner.

On occasion I have a heavy late lunch that manages to spoil dinner for me, although that is a rare occurrence.

I am telling you, you don't know what you are missing. This stuff is deee-licious. As a matter of fact, it's kinda like jambalaya without the clams and chicken.
