Hi myLot friends. Well, I've been inconsistent again in posting for Weird Word Wednesday, but here I go! "Kerfuffle" is a funny-sounding word to me. It makes me think of a fancy dessert! But kerfuffle is not sweet or fun. It is about conflict and the loud disturbance that often accompanies angry outbursts. It's origin is Scottish. I'd heard this word before but I've never used it. Are you familiar with kerfuffle- either the word or the experience?

Thanks for commenting @RubyHawk. It can be a bit stressful to witness a kerfuffle, even more so to be involved in one!

I remember very well that I heard this in a very old British movie and I searched the meaning because I did not know.

Great to see you posting. WWW again. I am familiar with the word kerfuffle and been involved in a few in my time. Also known as a hullabaloo or hoo-ha. Funny phrases, but we British are a bit of a funny lot.

Is it in the OED? I guess if it is Scottish in origin, then let it be Scottish only, why bring it to English where already there are so many words for conflicts ? Maybe keep it as a dialectical word.

Thanks @Sojourn. I'm not sure if it's in the Oxford Dictionary, but I agree that we really don't need it! Confession: although I have a fairly good vocabulary, I had to look up the meaning of dialectical.
