PayPal Account Got Hacked!

A few days ago I decided to access my PayPal account. It's been years since I last opened it. As far as I can remember I only had about $3 on it. I was shocked to find out that I can no longer access it. After a few tries of resetting my password, I succeeded in logging in. The only information that was left the same was my name and the rest are all very unfamiliar to me. There's also nothing left in my balance.
I ended up creating a new account. Good thing, all the banking details of the account are no longer active and the cards have already expired.

I see you've already gotten good help with the problem so I feel free to say what I was thinking while reading your discussion starter...
It serves you right for abandoning us for so long!

@DaddyEvil I don't have a laptop. I feel PC has more life then a Laptop. You know I am stil using a PC which is 9 year old. Only thing I have upgraded is motherboard as due to Electricity fluctuation. I had SMPS and motherboard impacted.

@hexeduser22 Make sure you have 2 way auth is enabled with this account.
They allow you to have username password and then send an OTP on your registered mobile number.

Sorry about that. I used to get several notification about changing my password for Paypal and this went on for years. Yesterday I changed the password and was able to log in to use my $10 to pay for reading a good book on Dreame. I have been very slack in working at Mylot but with law school and everything I will definitely try to at least do 20 posts or responses per day.

I couldn't contact them because it always redirects me to authentication failed. There was no option to chat with support. Only way to get support is to call their US hotline and that's going to cost me a lot since I live outside of the US.

@hexeduser22 I am sorry you do not arrive to contact them. I called their local hotline a couple of times in the past and it works very well here.

Did you tried to complain to Paypal and tell them the situation and try to solve it.
This is serious problem, if there is flaw in system they need to look into it.

Recently, Paypal uses two-factor authentication system. In addition to password, a one-time verification code is required to login.

There were emails last July that I thought was just Phishing emails so I didn't bother myself with those emails. Somebody set up the two-factor for me without me knowing

That's sad to hear. It's good they haven't accessed your bank account. I try to type the specific URL of Paypal word by word when I log in, because one misspelled word and it opens to fake site. I also don't allow my password to be remembered by my computer.

I'm not sure how the information leaked because it's been years since I last login. I even disregarded the notification emails from PayPal thinking it was some kind of Phishing email
