What’s wrong with this picture?

All the plumbing talk on a recent post by @JudyEv reminded me of this. This is a little hand-washing basin which has separate hot and cold water taps, as is common in the UK. But something isn’t right, can anyone spot what it is? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

The hot water is always on the left and the cold on the right, this is what is wrong with this picture.

@Fleura Ouch, this is even worse. The incompetent plumber who came to install our sink in Monte Carlo only put the taps the wrong way.

@LadyDuck It takes a conscious effort for visitors to remember to use the correct tap and to turn it the appropriate way, otherwise they accidentally turn it fully on and the water splashes and sprays everywhere!

Correct! Some incompetent plumber put the taps the wrong way around on this washbasin, consequently not only are they on the wrong side but they also turn the wrong way!

I couldn't decide if those were H/C markings or not, but yes, hot is usually on the left

@Fleura Maybe it is designed for left-handed people

@GoAskAlice @xFiacre You are both correct! Some incompetent plumber put the taps the wrong way around on this washbasin, consequently not only are they on the wrong side but they also turn the wrong way!

Could not figure out what was wrong in the picture. Here we do not usually have seperate hot and cold water taps in our basin unless someone specifically instals one.

Of course if you're not used to this type of system you wouldn't see anything wrong.

@Fleura Personally, I think hot should be on the right.

The taps are the wrong way around. They are marked 'H' and 'C' for hot and cold, but the cold should be on the right. Because they've been put the wrong way they also turn the wrong way as well.

@BarBaraPrz Cold on the right is the industry standard in the UK and many other countries too. Partly I believe it is so that visually-impaired users are not at risk of unwittingly scalding themselves. So it would have to be changed everywhere.

My kitchen taps are that way round, while the bathroom is the other way!

The sink looks a little shallow. It wouldn’t hold much water

That's true it is rather small, but the man issue is that some incompetent plumber put the taps the wrong way around, the industry standard is to have the hot on the left and the cold on the right, consequently not only are they on the wrong side but they also turn the wrong way!

@Fleura That would be awkward. I’d probably scald myself trying to turn the hot water off.

@RubyHawk It is, you have to really concentrate otherwise you automatically turn the taps the usual way which results in a forceful flood of water spraying out of the basin! Luckily they are not in my house!

@fleura well the wash hand basin is installed very close to the door it would seem, and the reflection of the photographer cannot be seen in the shiny chromium.

Very clever, but I meant something actually relating to industry regulations.

I had to read down to find out what was wrong. Where did you see this basin? And thanks for the mention.

Unfortunately it's in the 'outlaws' house. Many grandchildren have accidentally sprayed themselves when trying to turn the tap off and getting the full flow instead, which of course sprays everywhere when it hits that tiny basin!
