My, what long ears you have!

I wrote about the chooks and the Maremma dog at our friend’s place. She also has four Anglo-Nubian goats which have almost cleared out the blackberries from her smallholding. Anglo-Nubians are charactersed by the large, drooping ears and the convex profile. They are the result of crossing traditional British goats with those from India, the Middle East and North Africa. Apart from the ears, it has long legs and a high head carriage. The coat can be almost any colour and any pattern. They are a dual purpose breed. While they may not give as much milk as some other breeds, there is a higher butterfat content. Our friend’s friend makes a delicious cheese from the milk from her Anglo-Nubians. But, apart from their sterling qualities, aren’t they just very cute?

I think it is the only breed that my nephew doesn't have. Here is another from the Perth Royal Show.

@judyev Goodness that takes me right back to Malawi in the 1960s! There was a small herd of long-eared sheep looked after by a poor, wizened old lady who must have been at least 100 down the track from us. They were the only sheep in the country. A bit of a mystery. Yours look delightful.

Except that these aren't sheep but goats. I know there are long-eared sheep.

@xFiacre We have some of those African sheep breeds here too. Australian farmers got a bit carried away with the self-shedding breeds.

I've always been a little weary about goats - been a little worried that they will butt you with their head. Maybe I need to overcome that fear.

I watch out for the billys. They can be quite dangerous. But if goats aren't teased then they are usually friendly enough.

They are very adorable. For my next doe I am wanting a nubian or a lamancha.

A Nubian might look big against Onyx and Sabrina.

Such cute goats I also love those ears, All my cats have long pointy ears and sometimes they look funny, I suppose they will grow into their ears,

Some cats do seem to have very long ears. And they say puppies grow into their feet so if they have relatively big feet as puppies then they will be big dogs.

Absolutely adorable with the long bunny ears. These goats are really big. I would love to pet one of these. There are petting zoos for kids and I used to visit them often. Such great therapy.

They took a petting zoo to Mum's nursing home once. All the oldies loved it.

They are adorable. I'd be afraid to have one because so many of my neighbors are new to the US and in their South American country it is common to raise a goat for the meat.

@JudyEv I used to know a couple who owned goats. They rented them to people who wanted fields cleared of weeds and brush. It didn’t take long for the goats to clear a field.

they are very cute - naughty but cute. Many people who have daily allergies resort to Goats milk and cheese which is quite healthy - I personally like it too without having any allergies
