Whose turn is it?

Here is another photo of the kangaroos that were fighting yesterday. I forgot to say Vince took all the kangaroo photos this time. The three are still deciding who’ll fight who at this point. Note how muscular the forearms are. Their heads are tipped right back to protect their eyes as they scratch at each other with their forearms. If dogs are attacking them, they might try to grab the dog with their arms. If they take refuge in a body of water, they will hold a dog under water to drown it.

Any idea why they are fighting?

Because they're guys.

The strongest gets to mate with the most females so they'd be sorting out the pecking order.

@BarBaraPrz That's about the strength of it.

Fighting to see who gets to fight. What a concept. The ones at Kentucky Down Under were so sweet and docile but I knew better than to get near their back legs, just in case they wanted to kick something.

The does are rarely ever dangerous but the bucks are a different kettle of fish - if you get my drift! I doubt they'd have entire (uncastrated) males in a public area.

I suppose like most animals including humans the fight is over territory.

I think more over the right to mate with available females.

@JudyEv I would be hypnotized as I have never seen a kangaroo.

It certainly does look like a standoff. I wouldn't want to tangle with a kangaroo

@JudyEv wow seeing a close-up it's easy to see how sharp they are.

The toes on those hindlegs are very strong and sharp. Even the front paws have sharp claws. This is a doe's paws.

Do kangaroos fight a lot or is it mating season?

@RubyHawk And it probably is. Otherwise, maybe they're just 'practising' their moves.

The western roos breed year round if conditions are right so there is probably a lot of fighting. The strongest males mate with the most females.

The males in particular can be very dangerous. A guy was killed just the other day by his pet kangaroo.

I wouldn't want to tangle with any of them. They don't look as fierce in photos as what I've read about what they are capable of doing to each other and I did read about some silly man who got too close to one and was badly injured by those hind legs.

The males are dangerous if they're cornered and pet ones are dangerous too.

A dog fights a dog. A cat fights a cat. A kangaroo fights a kangaroo. A human being fights a human. A human even kills his opponent. Why is it so?

I guess they all argue over territory or who gets the 'girl'.

They'd make a great base for a coffee table - one of those tall ones in a bar.
