The hospital billed me.

I just received the hospital bill via email. I suppose they don´t dare look at me at the face.
I have yet to talk with my daughter to see if they can help me with it. It is not as if I was asking for a loan. I want part of the loan I gave to them back.
Anyway besides my not having that amount now, I am not surprised at what they charged. In fact I thought it would be more as I was 8 days at the hospital. The amount was very high, but with my plan the copay wasn´t so much.
I have to talk with them but right now they are not available by the phone.
I just don´t know what poor people do. I suppose they simply die.

Now that we are both retired, our insurance plan is very fair. They will cover most of the hospitalization, even though I've never used it yet. I don't want to be hospitalized to find out!

I only pay 1/10% of the bill. But the total was so big that the tenth was still about twice my pension. I lent money to my girls 3 years ago or so and now they will have to pay back part of it.

We have theoretically free care for poor people. But there is not enough money to do it all in time.

@LadyDuck Something like that happens here too. But still, we have very good health care considering that we are not a rich country.

@marguicha I know that in Italy they take care of poor people in the hospitals, this is one of the reasons why all the Italian hospitals are full of debts.

I know that health care is not perfect even in countries where they say that it is free.

@marguicha I’ve heard that too but at least they aren’t stuck with a hospital bill.

Here at least, you can set up a payment plan, or you can look into the laws and see what discounts you can get. Do you not have insurance?

I have an insurance. They charged only part of the total. And I´m sure that there are many payment plans.

I am always in shock when I see hospital and medical bills. Even with insurance, co-pays can just be ridiculous. I was wondering, here it seems there is some assistance for those who can't afford to pay these type of bills and they qualify, do they have that in your country for the people who can't pay?

I am glad that something is available for them. No options at all would be terrible.

It seems that here someone has to sign a paper so that they will pay later. But there are also other hospitals for poor people. There you don´t pay much but they are always full.

I have heard - it is cheaper to die than fall sick!
Government hospitals are generally affordable and, at times, free but those who have insurance rely on private.
I was taken aback when I received the bill for my mother's ICU treatment a few years ago and was wondering how some manage to pay them.

I have an insurance so I went to a private hospital. But the first hour Claudia took me to the nearest hospital and the charge for just a couple of hours at a hospital that was not part of my plan was more than too much. Claudia told me not to worry, they would share it between Tania and her, but I said no and gave her my credit card. All that was in a haze.

Yes, in our country poor and middle class people die without treatment as they can't afford the money nor insurance.

Maintaining good health is definitely a worry for many including me. Thank goodness I have coverage, but like you said it only pays so much. When I was in the hospital/emergency room a few years back I was shocked when I got the bill. I called the hospital billing department, explained my situation, and they allowed me to arrange to pay it off a little each month. I was so relieved!

@dgobucks226 Claudia just told me not to worry. My daughters will take care of the bill. Now I have to discover how much the dentist will be. And I have to pay for some extras in Aruba.

The poor people are really burdened by things like this in life.
They die absolutely for not being able to pay for medical expenses.

I have never had real health problems in my life. Even when I had chemo, the government in my country pays for a great part of it. But the government does not help in the illness I had 2 months ago.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope it all works out, There is a silly Latvian song that in translation goes the rich get carried to the cemetery when they die and the poor have to go on foot. Take about silliness,

Hospital bills are tremendous. They're skyrocketing. I don't need to elaborate it.
