What do you do with damaged currency notes?

Damaged currency notes

This is a water damaged 50 rs. currency note. I'd left it in my pant pocket and then washed it. Anyway, the only way I can use this currency note is to take it to the bank and exchange it for a new note. They will exchange it if they feel it is an authentic note. I'm wondering if I should do that. If they feel it is not an authentic note, I will be in trouble. What can you do with water damaged currency notes in your country?

Our notes are made of some sort of stuff that can take going through the washing-machine. I've laundered some money in my time!

@JudyEv I've still kept one 20$ note from when we returned in 2014. It's still in decent shape and in my wallet!

@pitstop It might be polymer that it's made of. You can't tear it either.

You can deposit it in the bank and get good notes.

We spend water-damaged currency here. The business turns the currency in and the bank might replace it or it might put it into circulation again. *shrug*

@pitstop We get bills all the time that have stuff written on them, are torn in half and partly taped back together or missing one end of the bill. As long as the serial number is still legible and it is sort of together, places will accept it.

How easy is that? Do they ask a lot of questions?

I don't know. But I think it is alright to go to the bank to exchange it. If it is not a big amount, then it is also OK to take a bus or buy something that is not expensive?

You should be able to get replacements at the bank.

I'll try taking it to the bank. If they ask too many questions, I'll walk out!

Ours don't fade either usually. The fading occurred after it was accidentally in the washing machine.
