My son broke his glasses again

Yesterday, at school, while playing volleyball with his colleagues, my son took a ball that broke his glasses, just the frame but it is impossible to use it. At school I was told that the school insurance would pay for a new frame but if he change the lenses it would be on us. I went with him to the optician but we couldn't find a frame that fits the lenses I ended up spending almost 300€ on the new lenses. It is the second time the glasses are broken this year. It was an extra expense that we weren't counting on and our monthly budget suddenly got tighter. Any extra expenses on your side? Picture of my son's glasses.

Many will buy plastic ones just for this reason. Nothing new here.

OH NO! I am so sorry. We pay a small amount yearly to insure our eyeglasses and the lenses, should we break, the insurance covers.

The school insurance will pay the frame but the lenses aren't covered because the lenses weren't broken.

@nela13 The lenses are those insured as the progressive lenses my husband needs are very expensive.

@LadyDuck progressive lenses are very expensive, it makes sense to have an insurance.

I'm sorry that happened... but kids will be kids. Hopefully, nothing else happens that requires extra money for a few months now. Good luck!

@nela13 As long as he's okay, then everything will be alright in the end. Car expenses always suck!

It happens, he didn't get hurt and that is what matters. I wish you were right but unfortunately I think we will have car expenses too.

I'm sorry he broke his glasses. Added expenses can add to the budget burden. I had car expenses. Thankfully, it wasn't much as my son's girlfriend's father did the work, saving me a lot of money.

Wow that’s wonderful the school insurance would cover the frames but so sad no lenses would fit the frames . Glasses can be so expensive! I pay for insurance on glasses in case they get broken. It’s been a life saver many times. My daughter lost a pair of hers and is wearing an older pair that aren’t quite the right prescription for her now. I have to remember to call and make an appointment for her to get new ones.

It is very good that the school has this insurance, any accident that happens there, if there are material damages it would pay.

I had never had so many extra expenses than this year. I was over a week at the hospital. Then I had invited my grandson to Aruba and he lost his suitcase at the airport. I had to buy clothes for him to wear those 3 weeks. Then I had a big problem in one of my mollars. I am off to the dentist. And there are other things.

You should consider contacts, and see if you can find a way to pay for those if he's going to play sports.

@nela13 He needs to start using them anytime He does sport. Break or otherwise. If he can tolerate them. If the school can't compensate you, it's better for everyone. He's lucky the frames broke and a piece of lens didn't get in his eye.

@kaylachan he tolerates the lenses but he prefers the glasses because it is very difficult to him put the contacts in his eyes. We were lucky because the school paid the frame.

He has contacts but he only uses it in swimming and sports lessons. In this case he was playing volleyball during a break.

Omg! Can he use any other protective eye gear when he plays volleyball? It is bound to happen when one plays contact sports

What a shame you had to get new lenses. I guess it's an occupational hazard for school children who wear glasses.
