How do you type on the laptop or computer

10 finger typing

How do you normally type on the keyboard? with just one or two fingers or the 10 finger method as shown in the picture? With practice and the correct finger position one can type blindly with this method; I had learnt this method when I first learnt typing at the age of 5 and I hardly look at the keyboard while typing. Dont know when I last checked my typing speed but it is very good. Pic courtesy: Google

I had two years of typing in high school. No, I don't watch my fingers, all ten of them. I worked in an office as a typist/receptionist and loved it!

I had always loved typing and therefore I opted to work as a typist when I was looking out for my first job. Towards the end of my career worked as a Secretary and hardly had much of typing to do.

@mayka123 I typed out envelop addresses and mailed threatening letters, that were pre-printed. These were to let people know, their debts had been sent to the Collections Bureau. They didn't send me money, it was the business owner who settled those transactions.

@kobesbuddy Sending threatening letters sounds scary. Hope nobody knew it was you sending out those letters.

I learned typing very late while doing my computer course that too in my 40s. Today it depends on me. I type with both hands and at times with one hand. Both ways my typing speed is very fast.

Its good that your typing with one hand is also fast. I cannot type fast with one hand.

@mayka123 While content writing I sometimes had to take breakfast or snacks or dinner and work too and so I got used to typing with one hand and meet the deadline.

I had to learn it when I worked as a medical transcriptionist. I started typing 10 words per minute but with more practice I now type 40 words per minute

@mayka123 That is very fast. I'm not practicing anymore but it is very useful skill that you don't type words while looking on the keyboard

I actually learned using the ten finger method but slowly got into the habit of not using my left thumb. If you look at my laptop keyboard, you can see the space key is only worn on the right side.

I automatically use all fingers due to practice. At home we were taught the 10 finger method and could not type otherwise else we were not allowed to use the typewriter. So it automatically became a habit with me.

@mayka123 I don't know why I don't use my left thumb, I just don't. Nobody can take away a laptop I paid for.

I had a typing class in uni and the teacher was a real dragon. We had to learn how to type with ten fingers or else

I had a similar experience at home and that is why I have always been typing with ten fingers.

I don't watch my fingers and use all of them but I still make a few typos.

Typo errors are allowed. I just love typing and if I am asked to type the whole day I am ready to do that.

@JudyEv Lost practice I think. I hope I always have access to a laptop or computer to continue practicing typing.

@mayka123 I make more mistakes now than when I was working. My fingers seem to take off on their own sometimes.

I was taught how to use the ten digit method, and I typically do. with exceptions of course. It just depends on how my fingers are behaving.

May be when I grow older my fingers may not be so active and may have to start typing with just a few fingers. Just now my fingers are behaving well.

@mayka123 My right hand doesn't always work like it should. And, while I'll start with my fingers on home row, as I was taught, they don't always stay there. At any given time, my fingers are floating above the keyboard coming down when I need to hit a key. And, I'll use almost my hole hand to use things like tab or enter.

We need a good keyboard to type fast. Else the speed automatically lessens.
