An issue with integrity - the integrity of a fence

I wrote recently about five lions escaping at Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney, Australia. It turns out that the lions only escaped through one fence which is bad enough but they weren’t actually out among the public. Of course, there has been an investigation into the escape and it seems it was an ‘integrity issue’ with the fence. Why on earth can’t they simply say ‘there was a hole in the fence’ or ‘they dug under the fence’? But no, it’s an integrity issue. Similarly, on the news, if a person dies in a road accident, the reporter will say ‘a male was found deceased at the scene’. I’d prefer to hear ‘a man was found dead’. But I guess I’m old-fashioned. But that’s my gripe for the day. The photo is mine taken at Monarto Open Range Zoo in South Australia.

That's a beautiful lion. It's fortunate that they weren't out among the public.

You're right about the hole in the fence...just say it! Monarto looks and sounds like it might be a cool place to visit!

We toured Monarto in a safari-type vehicle and saw a lot of animals in a very natural environment.

@LindaOHio Giraffes are so gentle. At least they seem so. I'm jealous that you got to hand-feed one.

@JudyEv Giraffes are a favorite with me. We got to hand feed two a couple of years ago. So cool! Thanks for the pic.

@Shiva49 Oh I understand now. Have you heard of the KISS principle? It stands for 'Keep It Simple, Stupid'. I think more reporters should practise KISS in their reporting.

@JudyEv I meant the reporting of deaths in a roundabout way that you had mentioned.

People these days refer to one another in a very rustic and raw way. It's not acceptable in a polite society. In India people have started taking up this issue of reference.

Oh yeah, I read about that. Wow, happy the lions weren't out with the people. Yikes., But yes. Do just plainly say the fence needed repair , or something.

I guess all the other media sites will pick up on 'integrity issues' now and we'll see it all the time.

@JudyEv I wonder if I can make it work in my life. Ah yes. Due to integrity issues with the amount of coffee I haven't consumed today I am feeling lackluster....

@Gnana_Helps I'm a Leo, born in July. I don't like to think of myself as a grammar Nazi but mistakes jump off the page and straight at me whether I'm looking for them or not.

@JudyEv Are you by any chance march born? Though I'm not a grammar nazi, I dont like it if someone makes mistakes while talking. Just to keep me happy, my mind automatically corrects them in my mind. That way I can sleep better.

Mr Leo looks a little mangy, there... and have you noticed how everything is 'curated' now instead of 'presented' ?

Yes, that's another one. And they 'interact' or 'dialogue' rather than 'discuss' or 'talk'.

Journalists today go in for obfuscation and fancy-sounding words instead of just telling the straight story. It's sad. Glad the lions didn't get loose in the public.

It made headlines and world news but it was a bit of a storm in a teacup really. Four of the lions were cubs.

At least the reporters are telling the truth, just in a different way. As long as you can understand them, I guess it doesn't really matter. (Maybe they're trying to show that they have some higher education by using 50 cent words? People here do that all the time.) Beautiful photo of the lion, by the way.

@JudyEv Part of it is being politically correct anymore. Me and another girl got in trouble where we worked. A bunch of us were discussing skin color and trying to figure out how it came to be white, black red and so on. She was listed as black but she came up with she was actually mocha colored so we named her Miss Mocha The manager didnt like that even with the girl being in on it.

I find it interesting how professional lingo is making its way into everyday speech. I wonder if it is because journalists can't be bothered to translate into normal words

Sometimes they use words that don't really convey what they're trying to say. You know what they mean but they don't put it well.

I prefer people to speak plainly. That way I don't have to interpret what they just told me. What do you mean a man was found deceased at the scene? If it wasn't for the accident he might not've been found for several days. Good thing there was an accident.

And sometimes when they use big words, they use them in the wrong context with some bizarre results sometimes.
