What is my dad doing here?

I was at a Russian restaurant yesterday enjoying dinner with hubby, my mom, and my relatives. At one point I turned toward the exit and saw a partially bald gray-haired man with glasses standing there. Looking at his profile from a distance he looked like my dad. I turned away from him and then looked at him again and he still looked like my dad. The first thought in my head was what is my dad doing here? I was about to go up to him. Of course, there is no way my dad could've been standing there because he passed away in May. Once the guy started walking to his seat I came back to my senses. It clearly wasn't my dad. I was shocked, slightly freaked out, and sad at the same time... I know there are people out there, at least looking at a person's profile, that look like us. But this was more freakish because my dad is no longer alive.

They say there's a doppelganger out there for all of us.

I've heard of that. I was waiting for a ferry once and saw a female in the distance. Her profile seemed to look like it was me. It was a bit unsettling.

@lovebuglena I agree, only seeing his side made you thought for a moment it was your Dad.

If I saw his whole face I probably wouldn't have thought it was my dad. I saw his face sideways.

Your thought of going up to him surely would be a freakish thought as you say your Dad is no more.

Glad I didn't start making my way toward the guy. Would have been super awkward for me, especially when I would've realized it wasn't my dad.

Perhaps that mistake was meant to send you some kind of message. If you believe in that kind of thing.

@lovebuglena Hard to say, really. It could mean almost anything. Maybe some peace of mind?

Maybe that is the case. But then what was the message? Can't say if I believe in this kind of thing or not. I've never really thought about it.

I would have been a bit freaked out too. What a flood of memories it must have brought back.

It did bring a bit of sadness. My 1st cousin got married on the 5th of November. I cried a bit during the ceremony. One of the reasons was that my dad was not at the wedding with us.

I had also taken a double take due to the eerie resemblance. And if the other person is no more, the effect is double!

Very true. There were times when I would see an elderly person and think it's my grandpa. Only he is no longer here either.

Yeah. When I was at my cousin's wedding I cried a little bit because my dad was not there.

I think that it is your brain’s emotional response to wishing you can see your dad again. I can’t tell you how many times I thought I saw my dad months after he had passed.

Perhaps that is what it is. First time that it happened so far. And in a Russian restaurant of all places.

I've seen people who resemble those I loved, but I've never seen one who looks like my dad.

I once saw someone in the distance where her profile looked just like me. Freaked me out a bit.
