NEW MUSIC SERIES!!!
Artists need an "Emotional Rescue," especially when they write love songs. It can be a rollercoaster for them, where sometimes their "up" or "down," "happy" or "sad," "angry or "cheerful." So, I thought a trivia series devoted to these "feelings" and others would be an interesting music topic to explore. Let's see how many of these tunes make your playlist and stir up some memories for you... Here goes!
This song by the "Pretenders" tells you all you need to know about where are first set of emotions are going. Try not to cry while listening,
1. "Stop Your Sobbing"- Pretenders
-Really great song written by the "Kinks singer Ray Davies" and covered by this band. Pretty straightforward song about a girl crying and her boyfriend feeling guilty and telling her to stop.
Fun fact: Davies and Pretenders Chrissie Hynde met and hooked up resulting in a child. Wonder if their breakup left Chrissie sobbing?
2. "Here Comes Those Tears Again"- Jackson Browne
-One of my favorite artists! An introspective tune to add to Jackson's long list. Browne fans might recognize "Ready or Not," "The Pretender," and "For Everyman," other songs in a similar vain.
3. "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying"- Gerry & The Pacemakers
-This 1963 hit song had an interesting perspective on crying. Group leader Gerry Marsden wrote this song, in which he explains that it's best to save your tears for nighttime, as the light of day brings a new opportunity for joy and a chance to get over the heartbreak.
TRIVIA CHALLENGE
***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. See if you can guess these selections and the bonus. Words in "quote marks" provide valuable clues!
Name today's tune, artist or facts:
1. This group has a name that is the same as the term for an "upper portion of a cereal box" or other boxed product. On it you usually will find either the expiration date, product identification, or proof of purchase. Their "song from 1968" was about a man who took for granted the love of his caring, faithful girlfriend. He treated her terribly and now that she's left him for good he "cries like an "infant or _______". You might know this blue-eyed soul pop band from another of their hits called "The Letter."
-Can you name this band and this #2 charting teary song?
2. The Miracles featuring Smokey Robinson recorded this "teary" titled tune in 1967. The song is based on an Italian opera Pagliacci, which is about a "circus performer" who makes the audience and "especially children laugh." But he really is "weeping" behind his makeup because his wife left him.
-Can you put these clues together and come up with the title to this Miracles song? The _________ of a ___________.
3. This 1966 song was recorded by this "mysterious" group whose frontman went by the name? (Question Mark) At one point the vocalist referred to the other band members as XYZ. This song uses a "number" in the title. The number refers to the "total amount of tears" the girl will be crying when her ex-boyfriend gets revenge on her for being dumped. And as the guy says in the song lyric it will be: "Too many teardrops for one heart to be crying."
-Do you know the name of this garage rock band with the unusual name and their "teary numbered song?"
Bonus: There is a sign in the Pretenders music video that is hard to read. Why is that?
It would be "a crying shame" if you cannot come up with any of these artists/songs on this quiz. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or, as Sam and Dave would say, "Hold On, I'm Comin."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned...

It's so easy to answer this just by checking to see what 4walls wrote ..... Yeah yeah, I knew them but since she's already written it in I figured I could simply be lazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy
I loved those songs back then but now I don't really listen to music anymore, I'd rather watch videos.

1. Alex Chilton as lead vocalist!! He was all of 17 when he sang lead on “The Letter.” That kind of talent at such a young age would make you cry like a baby, wouldn’t it? And you can’t send in three Box Tops to get it, either!
2. Just like Pagliacci!!!! In a lonely room I cry, the flowing water of a guy with a painted face!
(No, tears, I’m just clowning with you.)
3. What happens if she cried ninety seven or ninety five tears? What if he missed one in the count?? Why just 96????? All these questions!! No wonder his name is Question Mark!!!!!

Yes, and how about that Spooner Oldham. I bet your aware of this fun fact. Spooner Oldham who was a member of The Box Tops was a co-writer of a popular song called "I'm Your Puppet." Have you heard of this tune?
Man, they could have named that song "Cry a Bucket." Of tears of course!
Trivia fact: In 1965, the Miracles were the first Motown group to change their name to Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. Something Motown also did later on with Diana Ross & The Supremes.
