Let it go

I know that's a song in Frozen, right? I've never seen the movie (no little ones at home now). But the concept of "let it go" has really captivated me lately. There are things, people, and experiences that we all go through and some we obsess over and some aren't that big a deal. I really, really want to be able to bake delicious gluten free biscuits. I can't bake edible regular biscuits, so maybe my desire is a little on the unreasonable side of reality. But with persistence, I've become a fairly good cook of gluten free dishes. (My husband can't tolerate gluten well and it's actually a healthier way to cook. More from scratch and less prepackaged foods.) I've realized I'll never have a 19 inch waist line...sorry Scarlett... but I learned how to dress to emphasize my other assets, such as they are, lol. I've always loved to sing, been singing since I was four years old, maybe younger. I never got invited to sing at the Grand Ole Opry surprisingly , but I get invited to sing at church, funerals, and sometimes weddings. So, my point is there are things in life that you just have to let go. When you can, it's very freeing actually. Whether it's unforgiveness, or beliefs that you realize were wrong, or opinions that you have that you really have no idea are ridiculous and erroneous. Just let it go. I'm learning that more every day. Some days more acutely than others. Or as @FourWalls might say, "Not cute at all." Maybe I'm finally growing up. It's about time, I'd say. Anything you need to let go?

@1creekgirl I’m getting increasingly adept at letting it go when people annoy me or oppose me. I no longer worry about having the last word and I have let go of my unrealistic notion of being a writer.

Now and then I find things that I have to let go of, I mean no one needs to get stressed out so I just move on and when everything is nice and orderly I feel good.

I need to let go of guilt over some of my actions in my younger life. Sometimes they crowd in on me something awful.

I can relate to that, Judy. But I know God has forgiven me, so I try to remind myself of that.

I need to get rid of resentment of getting angry over stupid comments made by personalities on television or a social media site outside of this site.

That's a good idea. They don't even know how we feel and wouldn't care if they did. We might not always agree with each other on here, but we do care.

I have finally come to the place in my life where I have learned to let things/people go. It is a freeing place to be. I wish I had learned to do it earlier in life.

Oh you are so right people really started to think about what let it go meant to them when that movie came out and that song became such a big hit. 19 inch waist line? I have never measured mine but that seems extremely small. I weigh105 pounds at my last doctors appointment last week and I don’t think my waist would be only 19 inches. I’d measure but the baby is asleep in my lap. We don’t eat gluten free here but I do make most meals from scratch. Time consuming but yes healthier for us!

Home made really is healthier without all those preservatives. I think Scarlett O'Hara's tiny waistline was very unattainable for most of us!

@1creekgirl good golly her waist was really only 19 inches? Mines 26. I cannot imagine it only being 19 inches unless she wore a corset her whole life to make her waist so tiny. I know way back when they used to do that and it seems very uncomfortable and not worth it at all.

It can be difficult to let it go as the song says. It is as much an emotional process as anything else I find. I try to let the little things go, the dusting was not done on Thursday, the vacuum cleaning waited until Friday. Things like that do not mean alot in the grand scheme of life, but I think that I have a bit of OCD so that particular day that it is not done I stress. But.....I am a work in progress.

There are many things I should let go. For a start I should stop trying to be "too perfectionist" in everything I do. Well done and finishes is better than perfect.

@1creekgirl - I was not when I was young, but my husband has always been a perfectionist and I was "contaminated".

That's good for you to be able to forgive and let go. I know that doesn't mean you can forget, but God can help you "let it go."

This is a very good and timely post. You should have a blog. :-) No, I worry too much, and I remember hurts too much. All that does is hurt me. Doesn't "right" anything. You always look stylish in your profile pictures and what an honor to sing at important gatherings. I don't know too much about biscuits either, I'm no great baker here.... but I know I had some delightful gluten free cake once. Was way better than the "regular" option with gluten. Here's to letting go.

Nice reflective post and so true. As they say, don't sweat the little things. The song "Let it Be" by The Beatles popped into my head when reading your post. Let go of the struggle and anxiety of life was the message, very profound! I need to work harder on realizing everything does not always go your way. You have to let go and move on.

I’d never accuse you of not being a cute person. Don’t grow up, that’s a major trap!!!! You know, you can take a tour of the Ryman Auditorium and sing there, so you CAN say you sang at the Grand Ole Opry. I did it. Heck, I’ve even sung backstage at the Grand Ole Opry!!! I think I’ve let go of most of the things I needed to let go of. My life is much better because I did, too!!!!

I'm really bad at letting go. I still fret about things I did 50 years ago. I'm glad you've learned to move on. Have a great week.
