Introducing Chopper

The third dog at our house-sit is the ill-named Chopper, a 12-year-old Blue Heeler. He looks like he should be covered in tattoos and riding a Harley but in reality he is a gentle soul. In real-life, Chopper (aka Mark Brandon Read) was a colourful, larger-than-life gang leader criminal and, notorious for his vicious assaults and outlandish acts. It would take a number of posts to deal properly with him here so I won’t even try. Between the ages of 20 and 38, he spent only 13 months outside prison. He wrote crime novels and His first book, Chopper: From the Inside, was collected from letters he sent while in gaol. His life was documented in the film ‘Chopper and he featured twice in the Australian true-crime series Underbelly. Luckily, ‘our’ Chopper has a much less fearsome reputation.
